Moline/BF Avery

Just bought this tractor, and im trying to figure out what I've got. I was told by the guy I bought it from that it was a Moline; however, it has a BF Avery rear end. I understand that Moline Tractors bought BF Avery?? so I was wondering if anyone could help me out on figuring out a model or year that this tractor is.. Thanks

Thank you sir. I have looked extensively for a serial number and not found anything. Do you know where I should look for it?

Thank you

There should be a tag rivited to the frame rail right side just forward of the bell houseing if it is 1952 or later. This is where my 1952 BG and 1953 BF had the serial number. My 1951 BF has the number stamped into the top of the right rail just forward of the rear axle. Enjoy your tractor.

Minnie Mo John, do you know anything about the BFs that came with MM serial numbers? I have a BFW with an MM serial number tag on it with S/N 57800077. Any ideas on what year this might be? I have record the 578 prefix was used on BFWs, but not what serial numbers correspond with what years, or production numbers. Any ideas?

Thomas,

the serial number you are looking for will be stamped in the top of the frame rail on the right side of the tractor just forward of the bell housing. the stamping will not be very deep and may be covered with multiple coats of paint---the number will probably be something like 7V222 or something like that. In all probability, the first number will be a 6 or a 7 which will be followed by a V and then three digits. My guess is that your tractor is a Minneapolis Moline "V" model. Although M/M acquired B F Avery, they continued to make the "V" for a time and all of those units had B.F. Avery on many of the stamped parts like rear ends. Post your serial number and we'll help you find its year of mfg. Nice tractor with some of the hard to find parts still intact!

Thank you sir for all of that helpful information. I found a number stamped in the location you said to look and it is 5V-742. Hopefully you can steer me close to the year of manufacturing. With knowing that as the serial number, should this tractor be yellow or red? I can tell that it has been painted red on top what I thing to be PG2 pure gold 2.
