3 speed blower only has 2 speeds

I have a Agco lt70 and the medium speed isn't working.I got a new switch from Agco today thinking it was in the switch, but that didn't work. This switch has five blades B,C,H,M,L.I can't find anything wrong with the wire that comes off the medium blade. Also if I turn the fan to medium and then turn the ignition on sometimes the fan will come on for a split second.Could this be a relay? Thank You

I would assume there is a resistor block on this somewhere near the fan mounted in the air duct. At least thats how most all cars and trucks get their blower speeds.

Should be 3 or 4 wires going to it. The resistor for your medium speed is probably burned out or the connections cruddy .

My best free guess. Jeff

Thanks Jeff. My manual shows a 50 amp fuse and what it calls a air conditoner relay, blowers and the 3 speed switch. When I take the top off the air conditioner thats all I see,but I'm going out and have another look.

Ok I found the resistor it might be the problem. The wire that runs the medium speed is getting hot them it stops until I take it apart and put it back, then it works until it gets hot.Is the resistor bad or do I a problem between the switch and the resistor?thanks

High speed on the blower is the unrestricted speed of the blower motor...if high was out, then I'd suspect a relay. The two lower speeds are controlled by your resistor. If it's not a problem in the wiring to the resistor, then your resistor is bad.

Had the same thing happened to my big tractor.

That resistor is supposed to get hot. That's his job; to suck up some of the juice.

If it is coming on momentarily, then shutting down, check all the connectors, wiring and circuit breakers. Somewhere, we're losing connectivity UPSTREAM of the resistor.

Also, and just for what it is worth, a dry bushing(s) in that blower motor itself, or if equipped, the condensor motor can cause the wiring to get extremely hot because it will draw more than normal loads. This will trip the circuit breaker.

It sounds like your resistor is OK but the connections are intermittent. This is VERY common and difficult to correct without NEW terminals.
