Help With JD 112

I have 112 with electric lift that I would like to have put back together for me. Pulled engine out approx. 8 years ago. It has a broken piston skirt. I have kept all the parts. Probably 95% complete. What I want is to have Engine rebuilt and mower reassembled for me. Pretty much don't have time to do it and don't really remember how....... Let me know what you think. I am in Iowa.

I assume it has a 12 horse Kohler in it. They are very expensive to rebuild and from what I have seen the rebuilds don't seem to last.
I think they also came with a Tecumseh. The kohler 12hp was a longlasting engine but for the money to rebuild I would rather install a Honda

There are some wizards here on the garden tractor section and on http://www.weekendfreedommachines.com/

Mother Deere's web site has a parts section with exploded views handy for ID'ing missing parts.
Those old Kohler cast iron singles were beefy and reliable.

Ron,
Yes, a K-301 can be expensive to rebuild BUT if it is DONE right and the engine is maintained, the rebuild should last 10 years of heavy use. I recently did a K-301. The block was already 30 over and the crank 10 under. I had the block bored and sleeved back to standard. The crank was welded up and turned back to standard. Total parts and machine work was about 500 bucks. This engine was for a 30 year old JD 212. I expect this JD 212 to still be in use when a JD bought from Lowe's or Home Depot, that cost twice or three time this rebuild, is but a faint memory.
