Mounted Sickle on Farmall C question

I have a 1948 Farmall C with an IH mounted sickle and was wondering if there ever was a way to lift the bar other than by hand? I have the touch control hooked up to lift the bar but wondering if anyone ever saw or built hydro lift for pivot. I do have the aux. hydro port on the tractor to conrtol another ram. Thanks

When I got my C with a sickle bar mower many years ago I assumed that the lift would bring the bar up too. I bent the mechanisim trying to make it do it. All it does is lift the bar off the ground when you are not cutting, you have to raise the bar by hand to vertical when you want to transport.

Hi 48C-man: I also have a 48 Farmall C but I stopped using the IH mounted sickle mower because it caused the axel seal to start leaking. Soon after taking it off the seals stoped leaking. Now there may have been some change to the factory unit since it is 60 years old but I guessed there was too much weight twisting on that right axel housing... and the seals were not new. Just to let you see what I am talking about, I will Email you a few pictures if your interested.. Sorry I do not have an answer to original question but I'll say that I am ALWAYS careful when lifting that cutting bar into transport mode by keeping my fingers CLEAR of the cutting action of that sickle.. My Email should be open.. ag
