Case 1070 Power Shift problem

I recently purchased a 1070. It seems to work OK during spring field cultivating and planting. However, every now and then when shifting the power shift from 1st to 2nd, it would seem to miss, as if it was shifted into neutral. It would usually grab a second or two later. Second to third always seems to work OK. The transmission does not seem to slip in any gear or range. During haying this summer, the misses have gotten more frequent. Also, once or twice, I while planting 60 acres, I pressed the clutch in and the transmission did not seem to disengage. It only did it twice and has not done it since. Does this symptom sound familiar? Any ideas what may be the issue, how I narrow it down and how expensive will it be to fix? Where can I get parts?

Sounds like it could be a poppit in the power shift valve. They can get a little bit of metal shavings in there and stick. Take them out and clean them with brake clean and a rag. I have done this and it works. My clutch on a 2390 did the same thing and it would hesitate in the power shift, i took them out and cleaned them. Works great now.

Was running a 1370 that the neighbor just purchased and it acts the same way. Sometimes you let out on the foot clutch and it does not move. Then bang it engages. Also if you go to raise a implement and you are half idled down it raises very slow, Shift back to one and it comes right up. Setting still at a idle it raises the implement alright.

Thanks much for the reply. We will try cleaning the values and will respond with the results.

One more symptoms I neglected to mention. When the tractor is in reverse and I depress the clutch, it does not return to first. I am told that it is supposed to return to 1st when the clutch is pressed. I am not sure if that supports the dirty valve problem or not.

My 1070 was worse than that when it came here . not only was the p/s cables way out of whack .. Previous O ,, JAmmed the range selector up bad , to where it only had 2nd and 4th range . those minor problems made the tractor a cheap buy for me .. sent it to friendly case/ihc dealer, who had all in order in 12 work shop hours .. the CASE p/shift automatically should return to 1st from any forward gear 2nd or 3rd ,, to decrease wear on delicate cable adjustments mechanics told me long ago to physically ues the hand selector for each shift . up as well as down shifting ... case p/ashift is not supposed to return to 1st automaticaly EVER ,when in reverse ,,,think About it ,,, That would be He!! on any being mechanical or human ,, these issues could be answered best over on Case forum.. i FEEL THAT THE CABLE ADJUSTMENTS NEED FINE TUNING ,, . AI/T book can walk you thru it...

Thanks for the advice.

I guess I did not think about the complication it that would exist if the shifter returned to 1st from reverse each time the clutch was pressed. That would be a real pain.

Excuse my ignorance, but can you tell me what a "AI/T book" is and where I find one?

Bad typo on my part . Old Mechanic told me More than Once " YOU will LEARN FAR MORE If YOU Are NEVER afraid to ask ??????." ........You need a I&T shop manual c-203 covers the 1070 as well as serveral other models . tractor supply should have a copy .... more clarification on shifting , when adjusted properly and correctly , and Everthing BEING A PERRFECT WORLD ... upon fully depressing clutch (inch pedal) the p/s shifter should return from 3rd all the way to 1st autmatically without manually selecting the shift lever , while in 3rd a shift to 2nd can be acheived by slightly deflecting the clutch , the same repeated deflection would then shift p/s from 2nd to 1st .. ... Sadly too many Power /shift Cases being Used on Farms Today are not in the PERFECT tuning sync , and are being used as thery are.. Because of the poor CASE engineering choice of cables and delicate spools ,, the Case P/s tranny has been heralded by many who "recalling the misunderstood history of Case-O Matic" would rather bad mouth than love and understand and keep in sync all those delicate variables .. Therefore I sTRONGLY RECOMMEND that Anyone With A P/S Tranny Get Themselves in the habit of MANUALLY SHIFTING the Power/S. .. I Strongly believe Case made a terrible Error in Believing that Most farmers would eagerly lift the floor plate each spring and with a couple of turns with a 5/8s wrench have everything Ship /SHAPE in 5 minutes time ... as simple as that sounds and actually is.... the Experienced Knowledge and confidence to tune in a Power Shift does not exist in Every averrage farmer ,, And Who Can Afford to have the dealer come out each spring and spend a few hours prepping a tractor for the next season ....
