Had to see a customer up on the lake today. The Sacandaga Lake is a man made lake which was built to control the level of the Hudson River so the fresh water seaport of Albany is acessable to ocean going vessels, And control down stream flooding. The lake is about 29mi long, covers 42 sq miles at capacity. The main dam at the north east corner at Conklinville was completed in 1930. Many farms businesses, and homes were displaced when the land was flooded. Those that wern't removed were burned. When fishing in the shallows you can see old stone walls, foundations, and roadways on the bottom. It's also said there is an abandon locomotive with train cars still attached on the bottom. A record Northern Pike @ 46#2oz has been caught in this lake. The lake is managed by the Hudson River Black River Regulation District. This regulatory commission is mostly funded privatly by Hydro plants supplying about 70% of the income. The pics were taken at Northville where the Sacandaga river enters the lake and about half way north to the Bachlorville bridge crosses a narow point. Didn't have to drive all the way to the Conklinville dam. Came back down east shore. It was about a 35mi loop from the work 20. Was a nice place to be on a 94d day.
PS I whish I had time to drive down many of the lanes to take pics of the great old lake houses that were built in the mod 30s and 40s Many were summer retreats for the rich and famous.

My first job out of college was in the Adirondacks, My territory included the Sacandaga lake and little towns along the shore. Loved that country. Haven't been back in a long time. When midwesterners hear New York they don't understand the beautiful wild country of upstate NY. Glad to see it is much like it was years ago. Thanks for the photos. Edd

Caseguy, I think you missed your calling. You should have been a photographer. All of your pics could be on calendars they are so good. The ones I take are usually so poor quality I don't want to see them again much less have anyone else to see them. I always enjoy yours. Keith
