How wide is that rim. From what your asking sounds like you have 14.9 tires on it now and you want to go up to the 16.9 tire which you might be able to do if the rim is at least 14 inches wide but even if 14 inches wide your pushing it a bit. A rim should be about an inch narrower then the tire but you can get by at 2 but like I said that is pushing it to the max limits
 
That 16.9 is actually 14 at the rim, and an inch either side of a 14 inch rim is ok, but beyond that it will look and act funny. Chances are your 14.9 is on a 13 inch rim or smaller. 13 inch rim is too small for 16.9 tire- that is a two inch spread.
 
ANYONE have data on who what and where 13 x 38 inch rims were used on any color rig? Trying here to get the proper rims for 14.9 x 38 tires. Says right on the tire to use 13 inch rims. Titan or Unververth does not supply new 13 inch rims. They compromised that application listing it to use 12 inch rims. Twelve looks better than 14, but neither is proper. Thought maybe I-H used them but have seen writtings here that say they didn"t. Any history on these dissappearing is welcome. Maybe JD could sell them in their captive parts department, and perhaps provide 5 year financing per their recent price policies (you need / we got )for older tractor parts !
