OT Pickup oil change

I changed the oil in my 97 Dakota Saturday. It calls for 5w30, but I had a case of 10w30 and figured why buy more oil, I'll use this. I always add about 1 qt of Lucas oil treatment when I change the oil. I drove it Sunday and noticed that the oil pressure isn't as high as it usually is after a oil change. Can 10w30 instead of 5w30 make that much difference? Motor has about 130,000 miles on it. Chris

I ould think the pressure would be higher with 10w instead of 5w oil in it. I regularly use 15w-40 in my 88 F150 as it quiets it down after 200,000 miles on the engine. Builds up the pressure a little better too.

I've been using 10W30 in both my vehicles since I got them, with no troubles at all. They both had 100k or more when I got them. If anything, 10w30 would be a little "heavier" and should increase oil pressure. However, I wouldn't worry much about it.
Good Luck and God Bless.

Boy took his NH skidsteer in to the dealer for a up date on it and they also changed oil and put 0w-40 in it. Said thats what NH recommends. Never heard of it before. I learned in school if you had 0 of anything you had nothing. Again been out of school about 50 years.

in some case's the thicker oil is harder to pull thru the oil pump pickup screen, some of these screens on newer stuff are pretty fine..

I have both a 99 and an 2000 Dakota. One with V6 and the with 4:9. I use 10W30 in both of them since they were bought new and never had a problem with either. Bet it is your filter.

Check the oil spec page in your operators manual, my 2000 Dakota manual gives the "perferd" weight oil and the "acceptable" wt oils.
Your 97 should have the older pushrod engines where 10-30 was fine.
Only thing I wonder, does your oil treatment additive thicken the oil, giving you something far thicker than 10-30 ???

Once it's warmed up the oil shouldn't make any difference. The 10 is when it's cold but the 30 is the same as what you were using.

Try an oil change without adding the good luck trinket.
It's vital to match oil weight to bearing clearances. Otherwise the proper oil wedge will not form.
