Removing PTO shaft on a drum mower

The power of liquid wrench...............

And a little coaxing from a partner w/ hammer and drive pin while I compressed the flange. I's a trusting sole

After a few days of tapping and squirting, I got some free movement today, Old guy that has been coaching me thru the haymaking bumped it a little and everything is off.

Now the problem.... Yoke is distorted some and one hole seems to be a little eggshaped. New PTO here is expensive here. Is there a reasonable to cheap source in the States to get a shaft w/ overrunning clutch) ? Compressed length is about 28 inches.

Thanks, Dave

I think whole pto's are pretty spendy here too.

Can you replace just the yoke/ knuckle?

It's hard for Joe Blow to find individual parts like that here. By the time I pay the shop, might as well get the assembly. Prolly get a ujoint and see if I can get it in place. Maybe a little selective tapping. Also check ebay for a used shaft. I saw a site in the Styates for parts and had a picture of what I need, but couldn't figure out how to order from them.

Thanks Lou! Got some play time now (mowing is done and the dry/hot weather doesn't promise a second cut this year) so I'm experimenting. Ordered a PTO overrunning clutch adapter from Yanmar Tractor Parts for 75 bucks including shipping. Hoping it'll let me use a normal PTO shaft that'll cost me 55 bucks (as apposed to 400+ for one with built in ORC).

We'll see.

I believe I'd work on my distorted yoke and egg-shaped hole; a vise and hammer can do wonders, even without a torch.

I'll try...

You also might want to try Agrisupply.com. They have all the latest Chinese drive shafts, might even have one with the ORC.

C&C Mach. in Johnson City,Tenn has a drive shaft with an OR clutch. http://www.ccmachinery.com/pto_shaft.htm
