Case Guy it is a real shame NY state tax system is so F uped and can be a real challenge to make a decent living in that area. We looked at farms out that way to buy and move their. As I would just love it . But we could never get the pencil to work it all out and just pick up and move .Oh well maybe some day or my next life time.

really like the pics, especially these, the memories those old barns must have in them, todays modern steel buildings are a economic nessesity, but you have to admit they just well, lack something

(quoted from post at 05:10:04 07/02/10) Great pictures. Old barns look so lonesome.

adk caseguy where is the barn w/ the 2 old ihs out in front of it that looks real familiar to me. any chance its out in the boonville area? just wondering because my wife has some relatives in boonville and their family has a barn very similar to that one along w/ some old ih tractors. i have only seen the property 1 time in the winter, so i was just curious. i'm looking for a job in upstate now as my wife would like to be closer to family, and i'm tired of trying to have a hobby farm in suburbia, people around my parts just don't get it.

Love those old barns, agree with the comment that the new barns are kind of soul-less, at least until they get enough stories under their roofs to become "old barns"...

Thanks for posting the pix...

Love those great old barns. Hate to see the ones falling down. New ones just don't have any personality.

Keep the pics coming.

Dairying paid for most of those old barns. So sad that small dairies are a thing of the past.

May never get to see these places unless by shared photos.

Just finished reading a wonderful book- "Barns of the Genesee Country 1790-1915"(western NY) by Daniel A Fink. Full of pictures and history. The Fingerlakes library system here in central NY has 5 copies.I don't know where else it's available.

MSB you are so right In are area of Oklahoma there were hundreds of small dairy's. We had some Ag teachers who pushed dairying on the old worn out cotton ground as a way for the farmer to servive. We now have hundred of mouments of pit parlors that would either swing three or four units. Not near as beautiful as those old barn. Here is a picture of our barn. Holds twenty five Purbred Guersey cows in tie stalls. Housed many a Champion.

Here's a few of my barn. I live and work in it. It may be the oldest in town. It's certainly the biggest. Land was formerly part of the neighboring town founded in 1655. I keep adding to it. Would like to start on another 32' x 50' addition using a steel frame and wide (18'' - 24") pine siding that I have been storing for 25 years..
