Wooden Post Pounder

Whacked in 35 posts for the neighbor last Saturday. That is him in the photo.

Made it from a 2 stage Hyster fork lift mast.

That looks great!

How did you get the pounding affect ? I know it just don't push them in

More pics of that build would be nice .

Little more engineering it would double as a wood splitter.

Looks similer to the one my employer just borrowed last month. I like the hydrolic angle adjustment. The one here has all crank screws for hill side adjustment and it had set outside for 6 - 10 years so they were all froze up. Water in the cylinder and the seals were bad.
Worked so fast its kind of scary at first.
Worked on it all day to get it usable, then we didnt use it after all.
pushed pipe posts with bobcat.

Where are you located? looks like some nice soil, you won't be pounding any wooden posts in the ground around here. Ten gallons of rock out of every five gallon hole.

Glad to see it was done safely, Hope the most important step was completed prior - MISS-Dig (may be different in yoru state), to know of any underground facilities in the area.

We think alike. I use my BFH to break cast iron and concrete. The slide hammer is 6" solid round bar weighing 900 lbs. Yep, I split wood too with the horizontal splitter

Here's another use for a forklift mast.

I also use it for clipping hedges.

Are these actually uncommon in your areas? They don't just push the post in, you run a hydraulic lever and run the pounder up and down on the top of the post. We have one for 8 inch posts on the front of our 4020 and many of the neighbors have them both front mount and 3 point. I'm in SW WI and it gets really rocky here as well. Dad cuts the posts to a point with a chainsaw beforehand. In fact if you start pulling up rocks with a plow, it means you hit a limestone ridge and you may as well give up now. We've since went to a post hole auger on the front of our skid steer.
