Happy Dominion Day

Equivalent to your 4th of July. It was called dominion day but was changed to Canada day. It is a celebration of Canada becoming an independent nation.

Now called Canada Day. July1st 1867 The British North America Act united 4 maritime provinces and upper and lower Canada to become Ontario and Quebec. It was called the Dominion of Canada. From then on July was known as Dominion Day until 1982 when the constitution was brought home to Canada from Britain. From then on it has been called Canada Day.
For all you people south of the border, have a great day on the 'Fourth'. I look forward to seeing some of your celebrations. After all we have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for.
Chas.

When I was a kid we used to go to my uncles cabin in Ontario for the 4th. I couldn't understand what was wrong with the people up there. Nothing happened on the 4th of July!
Happy 1st of July Canada. Do you celebrate with fireworks?

Absolutely we do! We'll be heading in to town to see them shortly. Then on the 4th we'll likely hop across the border to have a gander at the ones there too..........or park along the river on our side and watch from there.

Happy Canada Day!!!!

WOW you get dominion in 1867 then it takes 115 years to get your constitution from Britian??

I guess its faster if you fight for it. Write your own and kick the bums out. 1776-1786 or there abouts.

I'm glad were all good friends now!! Even though y'all talk funny. ;^)

We could discuss the independent country within Canada which is Quebec.
They use Canadian currency and receive more Federal grant money than what they pay out. Even though they are a viable industrial/financial empire.
Quebec has more loyal to France than Ottawa for the past 400+ years.

Actually Quebec contributes the least into federal coffers but receives the most. Alberta is the exact opposite because of all the oil. Trudeau's national energy program was just a way to take billions more from Alberta. If Quebec wants more, they just whine a little more to get their way. When they wanted to seperate, they still wanted the same federal money coming their way. I don't think France has much to do with Quebec. The language in Quebec isn't even proper french. It's kind of a slang version. I don't think the US is at all interested in Quebec either. Dave

Ah yes, mudslinging and finger pointing, that's what Canada is all about. Aside from the gov't, and the fact that Quebec doesn't want to be one with the rest of the country, this is a great place to live!
