Sibley Tornado

I fully understand the devastation that a tornado can inflict. May 27, 1997 an estimated F5 hit the local community where I grew up (Jarrell, Texas) which is about halfway between Austin and Temple Texas on IH-35. We lost 27 people that day. As an insurance agent I walked through the neighborhood about 2 days later. Its hard to fathom unless you"ve seen it first hand. Something that I will never forget. My heart goes out to the folks of Sibley.

I was at Stillhouse and and my wife was in Temple and that tornado kept jumping back and forth across I35 on it's way down to Jarrell. So any town from Waco down could have been Jarrell.

I remember. Good thing was how the town pulled together in the aftermath.

You are right. Until you see if first hand, you can't imagine.

Had some friends lose their house to flooding. Asked for donations of household items & furniture on the electronic sale board we had at work. Loaded everything on our flatbed and took it to them. News reports and pics just don't tell the story.

Hello gitrib: Wow.. Thank you very much for posting that Link.. That is about the best detail I've read or seen on storm damage. I live just 60 miles North- NorthWest of Sibley and there was a huge storm just 24 hours later that passed through that area and I was there just ahead of the "Wall cloud." I could not understand seeing some of the damage when the storm had not yet passed but now understand I was seeing a little of the damage from the day before.. Enough, all ready for this year. This report you posted is very complete and should be viewed by all in Tornado country. Most people don't understand 200mph plus power of wind.
Thanks again. I downloaded it.. ag

Fascinating pictures, thanks for posting the link.
I am lucky to never have seen anything like that first hand, my heart goes out to those folks.

Here in Central NY a tornado is a very rare event, but Tue. there was one 22 miles from my home touching down in Herkimer NY. Only cat 0 event but,We've also had several warnings on the emergency broadcast system previous to this. Mother Nature seams to be having a lot of bad hair days lately, plus an upset stomach, couple of eastern earthquakes, rare also! Was Al wright?
