I tried to add some captions on the pictures but the computer was smarter than this old man.

Remindes me of the damage done to my place by a F2 tornado. Had fishing poles stuck into the ground tip first. That was June 24, 2003

Unless you have seen the powerful damage that tornadoes can produce they are just hard to even imagine. My heart goes out to all of those with damage in the Sibley, IA area. The trees, etc. never heal.

In 2007 an F-5 tornado leveled an estimated 95% of Greensburg, Kansas. All 1500 residents had to be evacuated. One building, a tavern, that remained standing had to be used as a makeshift morgue. Nine lost their lives.

This tornado was the first I had heard of that leveled a water tower, shown best in view 11 at the link below.

Since this is a tractor forum, the local John Deere dealer was hit hard. The dealership had the largest claim ever with with Deere insurance or whoever the underwriter was, but I heard Deere Corp.

Many residents decided to rebuild only after they learned Dillon's would rebuild their grocery store. Without the store and having already been relocated to another city they would simply have stayed there.

The city is attempting to go green and rebuild correctly with things such as LED street lights.

One homeowner has rebuilt with a dome shaped home of concrete. The builder demonstrated how it can withstand damage by dropping a car onto the roof via crane. No cracks at all to the structure but the car didn't fare too well.

After seeing the damage caused by a tornado we should all run and hide when they approach instead of gawking and standing there with a camera as some do.

Sibley, may your area heal as quickly as possible and with neighbor helping neighbor.
