Well I guess there probably gonna be drilling for gas in southern New York.Thoughts of cashing in have gone through my mind.Anyone seen that show on HBO,Gasland.Man what a mess. Are farrier already signed a lease with a gas company. So they proceded to burn down there house and build a new one,I presume they already got some money or plan on getting some.Well they didnt gat a lawyer when they signed these contracts and now for whatever mumbo jumbo wording in those contracts they cant begin to build there new house.
Anyone have any expierence with these gas companys?
If your approached by these people I highly reccomend you see that HBO special Gasland.

"Gaslands" is a feamongering movie made by some hippie named Josh, done in the Michael Moore style.

Understand--there is risk with gas drilling and NYS needs to cover all the bases before allowing drilling. But--environmentalists are against anything and everything. Remember the Snail Darter and the Spotted Owland the economic mess caused by those issues?

But gas drilling is inevitable NYS because of the massive amount of $$$$ abvailable to our David Patterson wrecked state.

And--in spite of what Josh says in "Gaslands," "fracking" has been used safely and successfully since the 1950"s.

Well, its nothing new, gas drilling has been going on for the past 100 years in NYS, my grandfathers farm in the southern tier as 4 wells on it. The first on was drilled in 1921 and the last one was drilled in 1992. There are over 500 gas wells in Steuben and Allegany county"s alone.

there are "agents" that come around trying to tie up drilling rights, they then try to resell these rights to energy companies, Cheasapeake comes to mind as actual energy company

first deal is for right to drill, 2nd part is royalty per cubic footage of production if drilling is done and gas is found /produced

like anything, you have to sort out the crooks from the honest folks

IMHO, tree huggers and govt are not your friends

we are in northest pa where the gas boom is now my suggestion to you is hold off awhile on cashing in for a lease started here at 50 bucks an acre when my grandfather signed went up to 2500 and started dropping so i signed got 2000 an acre now its up to almost 6000 an acre so unless you are going to lose the farm just wait awhile it will pay off havent had any major problems here eccept some road detiriation mainly because the roads werent built right in the first place but the gas companies are paying to fix the roads and have them done right i see no problems with t at all

Don"t even talk to them until you have reatined the best gas/oil lawer you can find. Those gas people are snakes in the grass.

"But gas drilling is inevitable NYS because of the massive amount of $$$$ abvailable to our David Patterson wrecked state."

Same thing here in PA. Fast Eddie Rendell is trying to have a fire sale on the gas rights so he can close this year's budget gap; spend it all now and let the next guy worry about next year's budget. Of course it never occurred to him that maybe sending less money to his buddies in Philadelphia is also an option.

They offered me $12.50/ AC I said no. When I look at the map of where they are currantly drilling in NE Pa. there is a line coming from west to east directly toward me. Most of the farms arround me have sold for $12.50 and a promis of 20% of what comes out of the ground. When you sell your mineral rights, there will be consequencesfor the next 50 years. You better get the full value of your land, cuz it may not be worth much when the gas people are done.
Fun note: My county is broke, My state is broke and my Federal Gov.is so broke that the Chinees wont lend it money. Now thay tell me that I have GAS. Ed

I suppose it doesn't matter if you sign up or not they'll suck it out from under you and you won't have anything left anyway. There might be time to reconsider. 12.50 for drilling rights and 20% isn't bad..........

Listen to Johndeerman. I got $350 an acre 7 years ago (have a 10 acre tract). Can be over $7000 per now depending on how much land and what you have beneath you. I don't know what the price that they are paying up there where you are. Remember that if you have a small piece of land, that they can lease up around you and if you hold out the nature of formations below you, the well next door can communicate with your zone underneath you and that gas will be produced by the well next door and you get zero

I live in Washington County Pa the epicenter of the Marcellus Shale gas drilling. Range Resources is the major player here with Chespeake and Rice Energy as well. There has been a lot ofnew hotel construction,4 new suites hotels at one exit off I 79. Too many to count water trucks hauling all of the water/fluids from the process. Yes roads have been damaged and repaired for the most part. Some noise, they are drilling 10 wells on property next to mine right now. It sounds like a tractor engine running at a steady speed. They are just finishing the vertical holes and will do the horizontal portions this fall. I know of several people getting large royalties with pre 20% guarantees. Equipment dealers are doing very well.

Not true. Even if you don't sign, if your land is part of the designated "unit," you will still get paid at the prevailing royalty.

I am just a county north of the NY drilling. Can"t say that I am crazy about it, but we need the energy and folks in the southern tier need the money. I do have to take exception to your road comment JDMan, its not that the roads were not built right, they were never intended to carry the weight and volume they are getting now. It is inevitable that they are but we need to stay on them like white on rice to make sure it is done properly. I know they have to make a buck, but the stakes are pretty high here if they screw it up.

I signed a gas lease for 12.50 per acre. Next year it will be 2,500 per acre.

There is alot of opposition to drilling in my county. So far 3 wells have been permitted and the first well will be drilled around July 5th.

There is a group called Frack Mountain that is pushing for a moritorium on all drilling in PA. They are telling a lot of half truths.

There are vast amounts of natural gas in NY. It makes economic sense to harvest it "in an intelligent manor" Foremost not jeprodising our water resources. Economically it will be a boome to our states economy and esspecially to those of us who still have to work to survive. As stated if you own land in a perspective drill site, obtain good leagal council. Where I live there are a bunch of well to do people who never got any dirt under their fingernails, who have bought up smaller farms. In their eyes we who were borne here and are strugling to still make a living as farmers, construction workers, or dependent on making a living from a small local business are destroying their view and creating stinks that detract from their million dollar summer home in the country. They oppose any development of small business to harvesting any of our natural resources for energy production. They also have the time and money to stifel any economic growth of any kind here. To the west and north of my home are comercial wind farms. They are intergrated into the farmland and have been the only thing that has kept many dairy farmers in business. The North East has an abundance of Natural Gas, Sun, Wind and Water to provide us with all the fuel and electricity we need. If we in the North East tapped these resources, we wouldn't need foreign oil, oil from the Gulf, or Natural gas piped in from the midwest. On site and local energy production with minimal interstructure makes the most sense to me. Low enviromental impact and significant reduction in carbon footprint.
My wife and I are getting closer to total energy independance. Garden, wild game, wind and solar power, bio fuel heat.

gasland is just an anti-drilling POS. it certainly doesn't let facts about drilling get in the way of the producer's opinions against drilling.

i'm waiting for the drilling naysayers to turn off the gas heat in their homes. think it will happen?

we have landowner coalitions that are writing our own leases to protect our land and water. the longer nys screws around with drilling regs, the more land that will fragment to out of state buyers that care more about money than environmental protections.
