Indian tobacco I think

Whats it used for, anybody know? Theres a plant growing out by the shop and I looked it up on the web and it called it Mullien or something like that. Everybody around here says to smoke some of it and find out....but, thats what I was gonna say to them. How about the lowdown on this stuff, it kinda looks like a fuzzy tobacco plant with about a two foot seed cone on top with yellow buds and theres another shoot growing out of the base of it that has little green berries on it, that part looks more like a weed that tobacco. Anyone got a peace pipe??? ohfred

First year growth it grows flat to ground. Second year the center stem grows up. The center stem can be peeled and eaten when it is young. The leaves can be used to make a tea which is good to break up conjestion in the chest in case of a bad cold. If you smoke it the only thing it will do is burn your throat. We call it snake tobacco here. There is some other medical uses for it. DH

got this off of Wiki.

The plant has a long history of use as a medicine, and is an effective treatment for asthma and respiratory disorders.[3] Extracts made from the plant's flowers are a very effective treatment for ear infections. Although this plant is a recent arrival to North America, Native Americans used the ground seeds of this plant as a paralytic fish poison due to their high levels of rotenone. One species, Verbascum thapsus (Great mullein), is used as a herbal remedy for sore throat, cough, and lung diseases.

Mullein is also the active ingredient in many alternative smoking blends and is a first rate drill for use in the hand drill method of friction fire lighting.

Mullien grows to 6 or 7 feet tall with a long yellow bloom with big fuzzy leaves. Rabbit tobacco growes about two feet tall with small leaves that have a silver color on the back of them. Used to smoke rabbit tobacco when I was young. I am sure plants are called by differant names in differant parts of the USA. DH
