How to drain gas tank

Well as I posted yesterday I need to probably pull the gas tank off my Mitsubishi truck. Problem is that it has almost a full tank of gas in it. Thinking about hooking a hose to the tank side of the filter line and turning on the key. Will the pump that is going bad pump out the gas?? And also is the rubber hose strong enough that if I clamped it on with a hose clamp that maybe I could also get a pressure reading that way??
Thanks

Old, can you just do it the old fashioned way and just siphon it out with a hose? That tank is still going to be kind of heavy, how are you planning to lower it? Maybe you could run some ratchet straps across the top of the frame and under the tank to lower it.

Tank has one of those anti-siphon things in it so that is out. As for lowering it I figure a small floor jack and a 2X6 or 2X8 etc on the jack to protect the tank. Done a few of them that way over the years and not bad if you can get most of the gas out. I do know I can get some of it out just by hooking a hose the the line coming out of the tank since I found that when you change the filter you have to be fast or you get gas all over the place so maybe able to siphon it that way if I put it up on the ramps

Old, when I replace the in-tank fuel pump on a small truck I remove bolts that hold the bed on and lift the bed up. Lift the tank side of the bed up just enough to get the job done, support it with blocks.

Sure is easier than dropping the tank

I've had a few mechanics say it's a lot easier to just lift the box off the truck. Unbolt the filler for the tank and unplug the lights and only a few bolts hold the box on. Dave

If you buy one of those siphon pump kits the plastic hose is about 1/2 inch OD That should fit in the inlet.

I don't go to all the trouble of draining the tank to change out pumps.Just get those mounting bolts out of the bed and unplug the lighting wires and raise that bed up.Use your air hose to clean the dirt and dust off the top of the tank and go to work.I use a chain hoist to rig to the bed and lift it up.The small pickups are a breeze to do this way.I can do it this way while you are draing the gas out to do it from the bottom working under a jack on the floor.I don't have a lift in my shop so this way is easier and not as dangerous.Another plus is you have all the wiring and plumbing right there where you can see what you're doing.

I can just leave my truck behind the barn, like magic the gas is gone. Kid down the rd. is at least as good as Old, good kid and a good worker just needs gas for his 4wheeler!

Well because in the future I hope to sell it and get one with a 4 or 5 speed, ya to me a farm truck but it is still one to sell so I do not want to mess it up either but maybe improve it

If it where a standard bed I might do that but this one has the roll bars and all that extra stuff in it so I have to drop it or unbolt a lot of extra stuff
