Fill engine oil in Farmall 140

Hello all first time on board here. I am the proud new owner of a 1964 Farmall 140. Here is the question and i know it sounds crazy. I know where to check the hydraulic fluid. I know where to check the trans fluid. I think i even know where to check the engine oil (dip stick). Where do i put engine oil in? There is a fill port on the hydraulic pump that the previous owner (didnt know anything) told me is where engine oil goes. I dont think so. I have drained the oil from the engine and took almost 2.5 gallons out. I guess the best question is where do i put engine oil and where do i put hydraulic fluid? Also if you over fill the hydraulic fluid will it run into the crank case? Ok that a lot of questions. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you go to the International part of the forum they can probably help you...Ebay usually has service manuals...Not a bad thing to get if you plan to work on it yourself..

The engine oil is added through the dip stick port. You should get yourself a operator's manual at your local CaseIH dealer. The hydraulic oil is not intregrated with the engine oil.

If you look on the distributor drive housing, there is a cap. Twist it off and you should see a gear inside there. That's where the engine oil goes. It's on the seat side of the tractor if my memory serves me correctly. The tractor should have 4 or 5 quarts, I'm thinking 4. If you aren't in a big hurry, I will be home for July 4th weekend and can check out this stuff in the manual for capacities and e-mail it to you. The e-mail is open. You can probably find a manual on ebay for not much also, and you definitely will want one if you plan on keeping the tractor for a while so you have all the little specs like timing and what not.

Hurst

Hurst is correct about the oil fill port. It is in front of the ignition distributor, just behind the radiator on the governor housing. Be sure to get an owner's manual.

Thanks, Guys
I was about 90% sure that was the correct place but it wanted to make 100% sure. Just not familiar with this engine (YET)

I just acquired a 1962 140 Farmall. I took the hood off and found an oil filler cap on top of the valve cover. I filled the oil there. However a friend also said that you can fill it on the governor housing. I also have a question about the cover for the oil filter. Does the little gasket that came with the filter go in the groove at the bottom of the bell cover? The gasket caused a leak. But without the gasket it doesn't leak. Am I stupid, or what?

Terry the gasket ;s in a thin grove and has to be removed before a new one is installed, I would leave the old one in if not leaking .
