O/T Ugh! I should have kept my mouth shut!

Yesterday I said that I intended to make hay while the sun was shining this week. Now who was that feller everyone talks about, a Murphy someone and his law...

I drove to the field I am cutting for hay and got busy raking the hay I'd mowed on Saturday. Everything going just fine. Then I looked back and the rake wasn't turning! The gearbox went out. I can't really complain, I only paid $35 for the rake at an auction and that was four years ago....

Soooo, I take the chain off and haul the rake up to the end of the field. Who can I borrow a rake from???? Okay, got that worked out on the cell phone. Went to unpin the dead rake and noticed that I had blown one of the hydraulic hoses on my D19. GRRR! Okay, it's not leaking bad, I'll go get the borrowed rake with the pickup and rake the hay and while it is setting I'll get the hose fixed.

Jumped in the truck and drove a couple of miles down the road. A terrible wobble developed in the rear of the truck. When I got there, it turned out that the tread was in the process of peeling off the driver's side rear tire. Guess where the spare was....at home.

Babied the truck and rake back to the field. Called my wife and she came with the spare. Raked the hay and then changed the tire and drove home. I am now cooling down while she is in town getting the hydraulic hose replaced.

Let's see, did I forget anything? Oh, yeah. The nice hot dry weather for this week has turned into a thunderstorm watch this afternoon.

Like I said, I should have kept my mouth shut and just made the hay quietly :>(!

dont ya just hate days like that!!! i cant imagine making hay in your neck of the woods. was down near mountain home arkansas last week. saw guys making hay around west plains area. 95 degrees, humid as heck. some guys were round baling, nice a/c cab tractors, then there was a group doing small squares, open station tractor, guys stacking on a hay rack, that just didnt seem like a fun day at the farm!!!

Nothin ever starts crappin out, till you get the hay cut! With the first cuttin, lets see, I had a flat rear tire on the D-10, a busted front spindle on the D-12, and a couple of bearings, and load bearing bolts shear off inside the baler pickup. Oh, and 2 2mile walks home!

Maybe a bit of good news.....though I had a gear box go out once. Basket stopped turning like yours. Ended up being the cams on the drive wheels were hung up. After taking everthing apart and greasing and oiling it up I noticed the hole in the housing that oil can be squirted in every now and then to keep them cams clicking as they are supposed to.

Gremlins been busy here too.....AC worked just fine last Thursday when I finished cutting hay...this morning at 7:30 only blew 82 degree air.
