Pto slip cluch

Hi again I bought a slip cluch for a 8n proper size came home and went to install it and came away with more questions than results. This is my first experance with one so, it came with a greese fitting and a hollow (?) key ( best way to decribe it. So I don't kill myself for doing it wrong I want to ask thoes who know I figure I slide it on line up the holes on cluch and pto than tap the key into the inner part of cluch than put set screw on one end and fitting on the other. Than fill with greese and Than go and mow to my hearts content. Thanks
 
Yep, just like you described it.
I'm not sure if it's the "correct" name, but I've allways called the 'hollow key' you referred to as a roll pin.
 
May have to shorten PTO shaft for the mower. Be careful it does not bottom from being too long and damage tractor pto or mower gearcase.
 
CAUTION Roger is exactly right the most IMPORTANT thing is you check the overall length since you have added about 5 in to drive line. When you go to pick up the cutter things bind up and either bend the shaft or damage the tractor..
Get a helper and stand back and watch as they slowly raise the lift..You have the instlation figured out, only thing is it was probably a waste of money most 8n don,t slip the clutch just stall. A shear pin seems to work just about as well for dirive line protection.
 
Good point about the 8ns just stalling under a load that would make a slip clutch work, btw, the slip clutches I'm familiar with need to have the spring tension adjusted to the load also.
 
Hey dgoatrider, are you sure that what you want isn't an over running couple since your tractor doesn't have a two stage clutch? That's a very different piece of kit than a slip clutch.
 
Are you sure you're talking 'slip clutch' or 'over running coupler?' There's no need for a grease fitting on a slip clutch.
