After 12 long years and over 1000 good deals I finally got royally took on ebay.

In January I won a rebuilt 806-1256 IH injection pump on ebay.It was shipped promptly and from the outside it appeared to be a rebuilt pump so I left feedback.

Its been a hectic year and I didnt install it until recently. The tractor wouldnt start so tore the pump down and heres what we found.

It had the wrong type automatic advance and there were no o-rings on it.It had the wrong cam ring,it was totally worn out,and was in backwards. The transfer pump was in backwards.

The pump head was a rusty piece of junk and the delivery valve is stuck in the head. The snap ring that holds the head was in 3 pieces,The shut off clip was off and laying in the bottom of the pump.

I knew I was going to have to eat the $500 on this one as its been so long so we salvaged what little we could of the ebay pump and built one using pieces of several other old pumps that were laying around. My old pump was busted up so bad that it wasnt rebuildable and had no core value, but did have some useable parts.

The moral of the story is quickly inspect what you win to see if its OK.The guy that sold me this had mostly all good feedback so I felt that it was OK but it wasnt.

I would never buy anything like that on ebay, most pumps are wore out or they never would have been taken off. There's several places that rebuild pumps that are reliable.I won't bid on anything that's advertised as rebuilt on ebay either. That's usually means just a paint job.I've sold several things on ebay and it worked fine,BUT the few small things i've bought have all been rip offs, misrepresented junk in a brand name box.

I just recently bought an injector pump off E-bay.. Badger Diesel in Wisconsin..They rebuilt a pump for my military Chevy M-1008 truck..They did an excellent job and did it very reasonably..I have a charge account at a local rebuilder in Cleveland..They couldn't touch Badgers price..I personally would not buy a pump from an individual unless I heard it run..In 10 years on E-bay , I've been minorly burnt twice..My own fault.....

Hey Roy maybe ya need to stop in and see my pump man Ya need to try Progressive diesel over in New Castle Pa. Harry and i go way back and i have nothing but good to say about him.

I bought a Miller welder/generator at auction years ago- electric start motor with no battery, so couldn't check compression, but oil looked fine. Got it home, no piston or rod in it and underside of head was royally chewed up- but they had put it back together with the gasket and replaced the used oil, so the oil on the dipstick would look normal.

It happens all the time. Not just Ebay. Junkyard engine for my minivan. Turns out it was the reason the van was in the junkyard. Took eight hours of swapping to find that out.

Like your prior years I have generally had nothing but great experience with Ebay.

My last purchase was a true once in a lifetime opportunity when one of the standing searches gave me a hit on a family name.

When I checked the auction the item was the marriage certificate from my ggg grandparents marriage in 1803. It was a Quaker document with signatures of all in attendance at the wedding. The certificate is on vellum which means on skin.

Sorry for you bad experience. I hope all of the other good purchases helped make up for the really bad one.

Could be it was a mistake or something done not by the ebay seller. Working for a Pontiac dealer, I have recieved cores, used parts turned in for warranty, even had a customer call - he had a can of chickenoodle soup in a oil filter box. (we were missing a can of campbells soup 2 weeks earlier)

I got stuck with a hydraulic jack with the word defective written across it, the return policy was only for 30 days so the local company refused a refund so lookig things over is a great idea.

I tend to agree with most (Ray) something like that you should get from a reputable source with warrentee. #2 Don't buy this stuff 5 years before you do your project and let it set (seen that to many times too)

I bought a "rebuilt" Stihl 044 off ScamBay once. As you said, it was shipped promptly but when it arrived I immediately put fuel in it and tried to start it. Among other things, the fuel tank leaked bad, it wouldn't idle, the chain oiler wasn't working and when I pulled the muffler cover to inspect the cylinder, the piston and cylinder wall were scored. I immediately contacted Visa, PayPal and the seller and about 3 weeks later, I got a full refund. BUT, lesson learned.
