tonight a 1.5 mile wide tornado hit our home in souther minnesota, Thank God we are in waterloo at the JD Expo as im typing this. Friends and family are telling us all of our sheds, grain bins, some trees, and our house could be a total loss,, it was hard to tell cuz it was dark, but its not sounding Good. My tractors from I hear are still in place, I dont know the damages, My family and friends are all ok, I feel ive been very blessed in my life, and I feel as if ive gone from having a very nice life, to now being literally homeless for awhile anyway. I just ask for your thoughts and prayers. I do remember the Book of Jobe, and he suffered through worse. I am not angry at God, I just dont understand why yet.

Sorry to hear that. I'm by New Ulm, 2 of the cells formed up around us, they were not much here only couple miles apart but got stronger as they went, one to the NE, the other mostly E. Was a bad nite for the state, think many don't realize how much damage was done both north & south.

We got a bit of shower out of it. But for a 100 miles or less, if it has formed that much to the west....

Really makes a person think.

Again, so sorry for your loss.

Tornado & flood hit us May 1; damage was terrible but not as bad as it seemed at first. Maybe you'll be as lucky as most of us were.

Happened to a friend of mine in Oakfield. Took 6 months to sort out but now everythings new, bigger and better. You lucky dog.

The wife thinks I'm nuts when I want to look at new equipment or old iron. It all looks the same to her. Well where would you be now if you hadnt gone to the Expo. ??
Job lost everything, including family (except wife), to the Devil's whim. Thank God you just lost material things.
Keep a stiff upper lip and keep the Faith. You'll make it.
That large of storm, maybe the Gov. will declair a state desaster.

Soory to hear of it. Good thing you went to the expo. Maybe there is something good in those green things!!!

so sorry to hear of your loss, really bad when its something like that that you just cant do something to protect yourself from, too, at least you have yourself and the wife safe, we had a loss here yesterday too, cessna 310 pilot with 7 on board came in to land too low and too fast, didnt make the airport, 5 dead 2 teens, thrown clear of the wreckage are in critical condition, this is a very tricky airport to land at even on a good day

One of the hats I wear is the Red Cross hat, they will take care of you for three days based on what you need, and what you have. There is no set alotment as often said, and it will buy you some time till you get a chance to evaluate.

Any fire chief may contact dispatch and dispatch can make the call to get things in motion. Yes there is paper work, but not all that bad. You also must remember that they have limited funds.

Usualy food , shelter, and clothing is considered the need.

It always looks worse the first few days, then you will be surprised at what gifts you still have.

Sorry to hear this. If you are in Waterloo and have time, either drive to the west up by Plainfield or drive east over by Dunkerton. They both were hit 2 years ago on the Sunday before Memorial Day by a F5 tornado, 1 1/2 miles wide and have pretty much recovered for the most part so that may give you some hope.

Prayers you and for the people in that area.

Wil

Harlan, sorry to hear that. I was standing next to the table when you told Brenda it was a year ago when 1 passed by Albert Lea. Neighbor and friends will help you pull through this tragic event.

Decided a long time ago that Why? doesn't have an answer.

Glad you're ok. Saw on the news that a tornado hit Kiester. Is that where your place is?

Harlan, I know that you and everyone of value will agree that no loss of life is the greatest blessing when these storms hit.
Contrary to what many of us normally feel, the stuff in our sheds is of little value compared to the family and friends around us.
I trust that everything is in good shape or replaceable.

It may be that you never understand why. It may do you some good to read the book of Job. Chapter 38 God said he would be asking the questions.

You will find out who your friends are. You may find that some you have not been a good friend to in the past will still help you because they see the value in you as a person.

I certianly wish you the best and will pray for you.
If nothing else this is a time to develop friendships that already exist and make new ones. You will find out how much people care. Remember the kind things done for you and return the love shown to you. Hopefully you dont have friends like Job.

Other than being able to eat and clothe yourself money and material goods are without value. Those whom you love are you real possesions. Let your friends and you family know that you love them.

Hopefully in the past you have surrounded yourself with genuine people who will help you.

I certianly wish you the best and will pray for you.

Got hit with a tornado on tornado tuesday in SD. 67 tornadoes touched down in a 12 hour period. A record. Was in the basement when it went throught. Lost house, 3 garages and new truck, machine shed and hog barn. Heard a friend say that I was in shock because I was laughing when I was talking with neighbors who showed up to help. Told him that I was laughing because I was happy and that I survived the ordeal. Everything else can be replaced but your life.

Sorry to hear of your home/business loss.

Thankfully you, your family, and your friends are OK.

Glad that y"all are safe.

Any chance you could narrow the place down without to much exposure? Our fire department will review. and detrmine if we can assist with the clean up? There are alot of things going on, but I will certianly bring it up to the guys.

If nothing else, perhaps a few of us can come up on our own. I certianly can not promise at this point.

Glad to hear everyone is safe. The other things can be rebuilt. Have a good friend that lost his family. When town of Jerrel was torn off the map. Whole town gone. Those things can do some strange things.

I had to go behind one for the phone company. Checking there remote sites. Saw a chicken farm destroyed. Everything gone. Bass boat across the street never moved.

You, my friend, are a blessing to us for such an upbeat attitude and for having your priorities focused in the right place.

I came through Wadena on Tuesday with a just- purchased CA tractor. Going back through tomorrow to get a combine north of bemidji- using the son"s work semi to deliver a combine NW of Wadena on the way north. Tuesday, Hwy 71 was closed in town for repairs. Now, a big chunk of town is closed for repairs. Unfortunate about the three killed in various tornadoes yesterday. Bound to be surprised at the devastation. Been through one tornado in 1964-just the tail end of it, on the farm I was working on.

Hi Wilamayb: I couldn't believe what you wrote about Job: Quote> "Hopefully you dont have friends like Job. Unquote. You best get several books explaining Job and read them, God had very high opinion of Job. So high that he did not think Saton could break him... You best NOT disagree with God too often... offta... ag (ret)

Harlan, Job didn't understand and I probably wouldn't either, but because of Job's faith his story has a good ending and I sincerely hope you have or get the strength and faith from God to see you and your family through this disaster and your recovery story has an ending like Job's. I will pray for you and your family.

Maybe God was looking out for you when he called you away to the expo!?
Hopefully you will have lots of help getting the material things back in order. Congratulations on coming away with the important stuff. Keep your chin up.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but the family is ok. Wish I was closer I would help you clean up your place. Stan

Harlan, sorry about the loss. It shows how fragile our seemingly comfortable world can be. Some people say a tornado is worse than a fire because a tornado scatters things all over the county. It"s lost, just like a fire, but it has to be cleaned up. Glad to hear the family is OK. That"s number one! Jim

We understand Wilamayb just fine. "Hope you don"t have friends like Job" means, Hope you don"t have "friends" like Job had: those who don"t lift a finger to help but hang around telling you that if you were living right, this wouldn"t have happened to you.

Wilamay: Ohh, OK. Yes,the friends of Job...
Common problem with short notes in Forums not getting details clearly stated.. I could have re-read it a few extra times also... ag
