Bar rake PTO driven with 3pt hitch??

Is or has anyone using/used one? I'm having a little problem that I don't think is me. The 3PH is for transport, in use, there are 3 wheels. On flat ground, all is OK.
Now, the problem, the tree rows I do slope away from the trees a little because way back when, people would cultivate the rows so no grass would grow. Each row in this area belongs to a different person so a big area is a constant wave. I can't keep all 3 wheels on the ground.

Thinking there should be some flexibility on the rake side of the 3PH to allow it to float but am having a hard time figuring it out.
Hoping someone has something and can point me in the right direction.

I had the same problem with a 3 point disk (keeping it on the ground when it wasn't level)- I solved it by using a chain as a top link, which allowed the rear of the disk to follow the ground better. Caught a lot of heat on this board from the safety types (front could dig in and flip the disk up onto the back of the tractor). I decided that the ROPS would protect me, and I'm kind of a renegade, anyhow. Can't see how a rake could be as much of a hazard.

First, you need to tell us what make and model of rake.

Second, I suspect that you've found the limitation of the 3pt hitch rake. If there is any sort of float mechanism, it should be obvious. A pin, a toggle, something that you remove. But, I highly doubt it because that would cause all sorts of driveline alignment problems on the PTO shaft.

Chain as a top link? when you lower it, it's a 2pt hitch and will float without the solid top binding? Should be the ticket. Thanks!

I have a 3 point bar rake with two trailing wheels. I remove the top
link when in the field, and it will float quite well. I can't quite
visualize the third wheel on yours, so I don't know how that would
affect it.

As you look at the picture, it's the wheel just under the end of the PTO shaft that rides up. The 3 wheels are to the left and right of 3PH and 1 on the back left (you can see the adjusting handle). I'll either use a chain or disconnect the top link next time and see what happens.

Thanks, Dave

Mine just has the 2 trailing wheels on back. Just wondering, would it be possible that the front wheels on yours could be for when it's not mounted to the tractor for ease of mobility? Cuold you remove the front ones & see what happens? You could always put them back on if it don't work. Just my thoughts, Keith

Yep the chain top link should work we have a NH 3pt link rollerbar rake with 2 wheels out the back & have always used a chain. helps it float over the ground and still allows you to lift it up again at the end of a run with out puting the top link back on.

That middle front wheel is kinda confusing, I wonder if it makes the rake a more towing rake than a true 3PH and would make a lighter front end tractor more stable in the turns. I can't say I've seen a 3PH rake with that arrangement.MTCW

I'd try removing the wheel on the front, if you can unbolt the leg
that holds it. I think that would help some. Without that wheel it
would be like the one I'm used to.

Most 3pt hitches on tractors have slots in lower link lift arms that one can change from pinning rigid to letting lift pins slide up/down to let RH/LH draft links raise /lower a independently from each other to give some flexibility.
