OT/Big butter Jesus

I saw on the news that the Big Butter Jesus statue along I-75 north of Cincinnati got hit by lightening last night and burned to the ground. Nothing left but a metal skeleton. Didn't even look combustible from the road. It was quite a landmark, that's for sure.

I have driven through there at least 50 times and I dont remember seeing a "Big butter Jesus" Statue. It has been 10 years since I have been through there.

Never heard of "Big Butter Jesus". Touchdown Jesus was struck by lightning despite lightning protection, the right hand caught fire and quickly spread. Much of the statue was styrofoam, the firefighters didn't even try to fight the fire, they just protected the auditorium. The church is already planning to rebuild the statue, what materials hasn't been determined.

It was made in '04, that's why you don't remember it. Made mostly out of styrofoam type material. Not the smartest move. Supposedly 700K to replace it and damage to the amphitheater behind it.

Hum,there's a larry fint porno shop up the street one way and some bars the other and jesus decided to flame his son.Gotta be a meaning in there someplace.

Never heard the song, but I heard ABOUT it. Didn't Bob and Tom used to play it or something?

Sorry--No idea??----Heywood Banks is a "once a year" guest on a local radio station and always sings this song.....I didn't know this statue even existed until today!!!

The story made it all the way to our local news at noon in Albany NY today. I wish a bolt of lighting would hit our state congressional building, and wipe out the bunch of political idiots that are destroying the economy of this state.

I live not to far from that statue.....around here everyone calls it "touchdown jesus" because it looked like a referee signaling a touchdown at the superbowl. It cost a blue fortune to build that thing. The operator/owner of that church is considered by many around here to be a crook......I belive that this was a sign.....I have heard some of the stories of that church....you have to submit you W2 to the church so they know if you are paying your fair share of your 10% tithe.....GOOD RIDENS I say.

And it's behavior like that which completely takes all the good out of church. I know that is not every church but it's enough to make many people suspicious of other ones.

The fellowship that I belong to doesn't "tithe" per se, but if you donate %5 of your gross income you can be on the fiscal support team and you get to vote on what ministries you want to support. The budget is based on the pledges they receive for the coming year. And the Elders are limited to a set maximum income, no matter where it comes from. A very transparent financial setup. I often wonder how they can do all that they do, it seems to be well managed.

There are a lot stories about Mr. Bishop I"ve gotten from contractors that have done work for him and Traders World which is his entity also unbekownst to people. I"ll stop there because there are a lot followers that could be on here and I understand he has gotten donation commitments already exceeding the cost of a replacement and beyond. As Earl Pitts would say "Reach in them Jeans and pull out them greens!" Pitts Off!!
