I hauled demo for two days once with my triaxle. They were crushing it by pounding it down in the basement that had four feet of water in it. The guy at the landfill tried to tell me my garbage wood wasn't good enough for their pile because it was wet. I told him it would dry out. I remember the weather was cool and dry.

How long do those temps last? I suppose you folks have pretty long summers down there. When we have a week or two of those conditions, (NE WI) I think I'm gonna die!

Keep replacing the water & minerals your body is sweating out.

Thank you for posting.

Not to put you down or any thing but it is a shame to rip something like that up when there is a lot of lumber etc that could be saved and used for good instead of just throwing it all away. But yep been the guy in the dump truck hauling stuff like that to the land fills

Ya now days I do my best to save and then use every thing I can, and what I can not use my self I try to pass on to some one else that can or will. Shoot my shop is build from All salvaged steel and cost me less then $200 to build which is very nice when it came to the $$$ to build it. But yep if instead of bull dozing they would take apart many trees and other things could be saved and the cost to do things might even go down it they did things like that. But dues to liability stuff and all it does not happen

I would suspect there's a time frame to have it removed that wouldn't allow much salvage time. A lot of Gov't. demo jobs leave all kinds of good stuff behind.
I've never seen a Dresser hoe before. It makes sense that it's basically a rebadged Komatsu since the two companies used to have a partnership. Dave

It's gonna cool down a little here in Ramadi Iraq on Thursday, it'll only get up to 111. Supposed to get back up in the low 120's by Sat. I think I got you beat, but you can probably have a nice cold beer after work!;^)

if thats what I think it is, it used to be a "portable classroom" in the great state of SC. Half of the wood is probably rotten and the other half is ate up with termites! I spent several years in those trying to get an education.

Dave you are right. We also have a Komatsu 220 it is the same machine except The dresser has a 6cyl Cummins and the Komatsu has a 4cyl Komatsu engine.

Old it is a shame to send good lumber to a landfill. We do salvage and recycle what we can. What you can't see is a pile of 2x6s that I saved from an added on roof. We save all the good treated lumber that we find and build floating docks in our spare time. See what you think.

This is Oakland Elementary in Charleston. They are building a new school in back of old school. Maybe you went there.

Yes, so much gets destroyed and put in the landfill and so many trees are cut down to replace 'em. Seems really stupid! When you have so many people unemployed, couldn't you hire a crew of say 20-30 people to tear it all apart and save all the good stuff? There's one unemployment solution that is also earth friendly. Nope, it's gotta be done as quick as possible, time is money.........sad!
I look at shows like Extreme Makeover Home Edition and shake my head. Here they are trying to "help" some poor unfortunate family and all they do is celebrate the destruction they cause and don't save a stick of lumber. Then build in a week a home that is way over the top. I have heard of families that can't afford to pay the taxes and heat bills for some of the palaces they build. And seriously, how good can the work be? You can't build anything in seven days! Just my $0.02

Could those portables not be moved elsewhere and maybe used for housing or perhaps as classrooms somewhere else? Isn't that why they are portables?

Not bad but how well do they hold up. I do understand building docks sine I worked for a company doing just that be we used steel and concrete but it was also a big company

Charleston as in the some place as the big Navy base??? I was stationed there for about 6 months or so. At that time it was a crazy sort of place but that was way back in the 70s. What interstate goes through that town?? Been way to long since I was there.
