Vertical tractor exhaust question

My friend just bought a tractor with a vertical exhaust pipe that has a bend at the top so that the opening is vertical. Will this keep water out adequately? TIA

depends on which way the wind is blowing when raining. figgerin the wind velocity, water volume and size of opening , If left outside I suggest ya still use a cover of some kind .coffee can, bucket, er something

That is a yes no or maybe thing. I do a lot of them but I make sure they have at least 3 inches of vertical pipe if not more and if I can I make them got down at about a 15 degree angle so it takes a heavy wind to blow much rain in. Now if it has a short flat end on it then no way will it keep out all the rain but will keep out most if it is not a blowing rain

(quoted from post at 21:12:11 06/14/10) How do you bend a vertical pipe to get a vertical exhaust exit?
They are made that way...

My 2955 had one like that...I cut the top of and put a raincap on it.

The way I would look at it is if it were at least an every other day runner it would be OK because only a wind driven rain from just the right direction would cause a problem. If it were going to sit any longer I would put a can over it. It makes a difference I guess if it's a worker or hobby machine, and how tall a ladder you're gonna need.

can is good idea. Blasted birds keep building nests in my exhaust pipes if I don't.

the 90s are good about blowing the sound and smoke away from you. You also dont have to listen the flapper rattle when your idling or working around the tractor. make sure the 90 is long enough and that the bottom is shorter than the top. I prefer them to the rain cap or flappers as I call them.
