Best of all time

There is an interesting thread going on about the greatest old tractors of all time.

It will be fun to watch unfold but it will only be the "opinions vote talley". I have never used some of those tractors or even seen them work so I have only a biased opinion toward the ones I have owned/used. The JD A was an amazing tractor but the 620/720 put it to shame. The 4020 seemed unbeatable to me but it was loooong after the A went bye-bye. 1939 9N was one of the most innovative ever, but didn't improve a whole lot over the years and Ford never kept up with the sizes that farmers wanted.
Oh well, the war just started...hehehe

Opinions will vary with the tractors people actually used.
I have three and love each one for it's own ability that fits my needs.
The '39 AC "B" is perfect for me to cultivate the garden or pull wagons or use the sickle bar for mowing. Also nice wide seat for taking the granddaughter for a ride.
The '40 Farmall "H" I use mostly for the loader (year round) but is also excellent for cultivating with the two row rig.
The '51 JD "B" is my workhorse. Plowing cutharrowing and general heavy pulling.
Now none of these tractors is spectacular but they each fit my needs perfectly. So to each his own.
Just my 2¢

I really like my Super M and my 8N Ford.WD 45s are also great machines.JD '20 and '30 series(2 cyl),old tractors with modern features(and that great 2 banger sound!)A littlenewer,JD 4020,and IH1206;IH1086 and JD4430.Everybody made some great tractors,and everybody made a few duds!

Ford N series was revolutionary in it's day.

The IHC H & M was a cheap workhorse when that was dearly needed by the nation.

JD 4020 had the power, features with the bugs worked out of them, and fuel ecconomy to be popular.

My nod for sleeper model that not everyone has driven is the Ford 960 series - lot of power & features in a small nimble package. I'm sure Ollie, AC, Massey, & the others have their sleepers as well.

Depending on the meaning of best, there is no contest. The Ford Ferguson 9N was the first commercially available tractor with the revolutionary Ferguson 3 pt. hitch. Every other tractor manufacturer adopted a 3 pt. hitch to their tractors as well and still do. After more than 60 years the 3 pt. hitch is still the standard of the industry in smaller tractors. I don't think there has been any other innovation that has been so universal with every brand of tractor. Well, I guess tires but that's a little different. I realize the 9N wasn't the best 3 pt. tractor made but it was revolutionary. Dave

As I said to the original post what was the original question? Most popular or most sold? The answer I have is most sold is based on per capita in other words if you had 2 Ford 8ns and switched to one IH706 because kids left the farm so you switched from 2 two bottom plows to one 4 bottom plow then you got older and wanted comfort and switched to a JD4020 with a five bottom plow then to a six bottom IH1586 to farm more ground with the kids coming back to farm again so you buy a Steiger monster plowing 10 bottoms then grain market craps and now it's no-till with 24row planters and sprayers with monster FWA and belt tractors doing the chisel plow work. I hope you see where I'm going with this? The concept is doing more with less.
