We have always used ivermectrin. what about doramectin? Looks like it may be longer lasting. There are some lower cost brands of both. Do they have as good a reputation?

Guess it'd depend on what you are using it on. Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. We injected (under the skin) doramectin on our friend's sheep. Good results and easy except my skin is still crawling ever time I mention handling them things..........

we have good results with both these products as well other generic brands but we always use the ivermectins plus for fluke control.

There doesn't seem to be any generic doramectin available in the stores where I am. I use the generic ivermectin pour-on (Ivermax) on my cattle. It seems to work very well.

This spring the ticks were really bad here. I put a ml of it on the back of my dog's head and it made a huge difference.

Doramectrin is a derivative of ivermectrin, there are results from various university trials that show doramectrin to be longer lasting. I use the Agmaxx generic version of both. I alternate between the two spring and fall as well as alternate between pour on and injectable. A Vet told me to do it that way several years ago when we had some lung worm problems. I don't remember why he said to alternate but probably to do with immunity build up.

I heard or read it was severely toxic to canines. guess that myth is not so either.

I had ticks on some calves this spring, i putthe ivermax generic on them and in a few days those ticks would turn to powder if you touched them. I think they were very very dead.

Yeah, ivermectin is actually the active ingredient in Heartguard. Not that you can feed the pour-on to them though :). The vet has a pour-on type formula that they use for canines too if they get fleas. They just dab it on the back of their neck like I did.

This is what I heard about why it can be deadly for dogs: If the dog has a lot of heart worms, they will all die at the same time and plug the heart.
