Some bonehead in Omaha was strangled and killed by an 9 foot pet python.

Reminds me, about 10 years ago, a neighbor a couple of miles away spotted an 8 foot boa in the road ditch by his place. He shot it. Since it's extremely doubtful that a boa would have the skills to survive a Nebraska winter in the wild, it was supposed that somebody's pet had gotten too big and they dumped it.
 
Sounds like they are a problem in the Florida everglades. Same deal, good idea when they are small but when they grow up they are to big.
 
I can't believe people are allowed to have such critters.snakes wolves big cats bears etc.all they need is a permit as far as I know there isnt any tracking done on sale,death ,breeding,disappearance,etc.
 
Some years ago a tornado went through here and destroyed a guy's house. Rumor is a couple of old ladies stopped to ask if they could help with anything. He said "yes, help me find my pet python" (he had one). They left in a hurry.
 
Some woman was killed by her tiger up here, she had spent years fighting to save it in the courts because it had killed or injured someone in the past. She went in to feed one day and it was all over. I would say Darwin candidate but she was well beyond the age of reproduction.
