Feed Room Critter

Strange thing, I had a large woods rat that set up house keeping in one of my feed rooms. I decided to try and catch him humanely, after snares, and large rat traps you have to nail down failed.
I put 4 range cubes in it, which he seems to like immensely. They also like tractor wiring. 3 nights the trap was tripped a range cube was gone but no rat. Last night I gave up and decided the trip was useless and didn’t reset it. This morning the range cube was gone and the rat was in the trap. Some how he opened the door, went in and couldn’t get back out.
I disposed of him by taking him to my neighbors and letting him go. They are from California and tell me they like all kinds of wildlife. He should do well there.

I have neighbors on each side of me (stand in my yard and touch their house on one and barn on the other) that can't resist the urge to take in every cat I get. They get every critter I catch. The one has a basement window on my side that stays opened a little that they get dropped in to and the one with the barn gets several thrown in with a handfull of feed.

I'm a people person.....

Cats is the answer. Years ago I did not have barn cat but had pack rats big fill up your truck cab etc etc rats. Get cats and no more rats. But now the problem is to many cats but no mice/rats etc

Shoulda turned hm loose at least 5 5 lane highways from home, or put him and the trap in a river. If he could swim with the trap, he could keep it, otherwise, just pull it back to the bridge with a rope!
