Hey guys I"ve got a customer that"s desperate for the front bolster (ie the big casting that bolts to the front of the engine and the axel pivots in)for a 165 diesel Massey Ferguson. The one I"ve got has a casting number of 523116M1. Facing the front of the machine that number is just to the left of center and about half way back on the housing. If it"s like the one I"ve got there is a raised casting number close to you and this number will be just behind it and be recessed.
I"ve been told there are several varities of these things so it has to have the same casting number to be identical. I"ve also been told that all of the different ones sub out to a single new number. Problem is we"ve already been that route and the new one is a total of 3/4 of an inch longer than the old one but more importantly the distance from the face where it bolts to the engine to the holes in the side mounting pads is also 3/4 of an inch longer than the old one. In this case the frame for the piece of machinery mounted to this tractor can"t be modified so I"ve got to find an exact replacement for it to work.
As far as repairing the old one I repaired a crack in it last year but this time it went right beside it and broke the side the steering cylinder pushes against completely off. Given the age and working conditions of this part with the extra attachment weight on it 24/7 to even think about trying to fix it again would, in my opinion, be a huge waste of time, especially given what is involved with getting it off the machine with the attachment in the way.
So, with all you tractor guys out there I"m hoping someone knows either where one is sitting that has the right casting number or possibly some local salvage yard that I haven"t found yet that may have what my customer needs. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Wayne
