Donor tractor ? For the engine?
Olivers used either the 3-71( 99 GM or 990 GM) or 4-53's,(1900 or 1950). None that I know of had 3-53's
I believe a small JD model used the 2-53.

The horsepower of a series 53 Detroit engine is dependent on the number of cylinders 2-3-4-6v-8v-12v, injector size, piston and liner configuration, cylinder head, blower, turbocharger and RPM. How much horsepower do you want? The same particulars also apply to the series 71, 92, 110, and 149 (cubic inches per cylinder). I don't mean to sound like smarty pants, it's just that a 3-53 is not limited to 73 horsepower. Sometimes you can find 3-53's on eBay, and other construction/industrial/marine newspapers and especially Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. I don't remember a production tractor that used a 3, rather 3-71's like someone else posted.

Roy:

HP depends upon version and RPM.

I do not believe that any AG tractors use the 3-53 but I think that Oliver and Massey used a few 3-71s.

Oliver did use the 4-53 and JD used the 2-53 in the 435.

There used to be aftermarket kits to fit detroits into CASE Ls and LAs but most used 3-6 71s. I'm Not a detroit expert but I think the bolt mtg. patterns are the same. A Detroit powered CASE L at an antique tractor pull sure gets a lot of attention when it hooks to the sled.
