Hey billonthefarm

Did they sound the whistle in Farmington, we didn't hear it if they did. Didn't even know anything was going on.

The whistle went off numerous times. We were all here watching the cubs game and nick was cooking. He hollered something like "what is that?" I walked into the kitchen, looked out the window and I said "thats a tornado!" Looked like it was just north of town (farmington). We all went outside and watched it move west to east. Of course from here it is a very clear view and would have been some very impressive pics. Ryan tried with his phone but they didnt come out very good. The sirens blew and blew. Tom called back up to the farm and they said it was on north of there. Tom got a call from his neighbor and he said it went just north of yates city and that everything was fine there but the power was out. We stood outside and watched it for quite awhile as it wasnt even raining here. No doubt as it was tearing up elmwood we were watching and wondering where it was. It was a very textbook looking storm. Sounds like alot of damage in elmwood but indications are no one got hurt. If nick hadnt looked out the window we might not have noticed either.

In our country they forcast those several hours ahead and storm watcher are out following them. Sometime that is all that is on TV also can follow them on computer on Mesonet a site that is available from National Weather Burea out of Norman. Lots of live saved by being "Weather Aware". I like the computer radar as you can get a over all view and can zero down to your area and can tell direction the storms are moving. Glad you are OK.

A couple of years ago we were traveling west on I-74 headed for an RV park near Carlock in our 35' RV. Saw a bunch of dust swirling around in a field on the south side of the road.

About that time we got hit with a gust of wind that just moved us to the westbound shoulder...no steering feel or anything. Pulled under an overpass until it was over, then went on. The folks at the RV park said we were lucky we made it there.

You need to get a weather alert radio and put it somewhere where there is a person and some quiet.(Like a receptionist) Hey, it"s a chance to get some more benefit from your tax dollar.

Glad you are all OK, it missed S Indiana
