We have Amish neighbors but I haven"t seen that one yet! Two years ago they leased a hay field off a neighbor. When it came time to cut, they showed up with a couple of draft horses pulling a large diesel power unit on a wagon with a PTO drive at the back. They had a moco behind that to cut the hay. the set up looked as long as a twenty mule team!
I know they like to keep things simple but somehow that doesn"t seem like a simple solution to haying. A tractor pulling the moco would have been much simpler set up, in my opinion.
I enjoy you pictures. Keep them coming.

I would rather breath the exhaust gas from my "gas" lawn mower then the "gas" from that horse.

Never seen a set up like that B4.

I saw the same setup near Grabill, Indiana a couple years ago. Amish lady was doing the mowing. Also saw a John Deere 4 row 7000 no-till planter. Had an engine to operate the hydraulics mounted on the planter. Had a 6 horse hitch to pull it behind a forecart... Gene

Wonder how he likes it when he has to mow over a big pile of road apples. Ah well, at least he spreads it and it looks like he's doing a fine job mowing also......

Looking at that lower photo, I'd feel pretty helpless if the horse didn't give the flower bed a wide enough berth- how do you keep Dobbin from wiping out mama's flowers?

Think I'll stick with the zero turn.

looks like he's doing a great job of it, ive had a few of those older reel mowers, 1st one was powered by me!. thats work, the next ones had small upright engines on them 2 or 3 hp, but just getting a reel mower sharpened and set up properly so it will cut like this guys does is a art in itself

The Amish in our neighborhood only use horses on Sunday. We call them "tractor Amish".

As they branch away from the "Old Order", they seem to adopt new ways of doing things.

I'm not impressed with the ones in our community.

Several of our Amish neighbors have been much less than perfect.

Would this be the same guy that had the
automatic reset plow earlier in the spring?

There is a business here in Minneapolis that will sharpen and set those reel mowers. They mostly do saw blades etc.
Sign on the wall says: "We can sharpen anything but your wits."

I don't understand some of their ways, there is a farm down the road from my in-laws and they ride a horse and buggy to get to town but have a very large 8 tired tractor sitting next to the house! Always wondered about that. Mike

NO This lad lives 3 houses from me. Both families have these mowers and both have reset plows. They mow and bale with NH haybines and balers powered by Kohler or Honda motors. They have some other unusual Equipment.

Horse drawn lawn mowers are not a new idea.I have old seed catalogs that picture them. The mower in the pix looks home made.Nice job.
