Trailer Brakes

Sorry if this is old stuff, but it fascinates me....
Have this bracket on the fender of my tractor that I always say I'm taking off when I get time. Use it to fasten a dog leash to, tie stuff, etc.

Found out what it is for today. Trailer brakes. Some heavy trailers have manual brakes instead of surge brakes. The hay wagon I borrowed today has manual brakes. The lever is on a long cable and there is a bracket on the trailer like the one on my tractor. When the trailer is parked or in use, the brakes are handy.

Hmmm. Manual brakes could be real handy. Might be a good thing to set those brakes if the trailer is parking on an incline.

My son and I converted an old one ton truck into a dump trailer. He insisted I save the emergency brake cables. We mounted a small boat trailer winch on the tongue and connected the cables to it. It makes a nice parking brake.

I enjoy seeing your pictures of equipment from "across the pond".
