11.2/38 versus 12/38 tire size question

Dad"s old Oliver 77 needs a rear tire replaced. The 11.2/38 sidewalls are cracked and split allowing the tube to stick out. Well, the tube got pinched. We have a old 12/38 tire that has no sidewall cracks and fair thread. I don"t want to buy a new tire as we use it about 80 hrs a year.

Would the .8 in the size cause any trouble?

Can I change it myself?

I plan on cutting the old tire bead with a sawz-all.

There is more than .8 difference. 11.2 is the old size 10 inch tire, like the old size 12 inch tire you mention. One inch difference is ok, two inches looks and works funny. 12 inch may be good trading material...

Miller Tire (Wauseon, OH) has an excellent eloboration of the 3 different tire numbering systems that have been used on rear tractor tires.
