Chipper on John Deere M

Hey Guys,

Need your opinion on something. I'm thinking of attaching 4 inch chipper to a John Deere M tractor (off the PTO). Does anyone know if this tractor has enough power to run that size chipper. If not, would a 3 inch make more sense?
Thanks.

It should run it just fine - I run a 4" on my Kubota = 17 HP but those chippers are only good for small wood, 2" is pushing it.

We have a Wallenstein 4" chipper that i quite often run with our 18hp Kioti. It will handle 2" with no problem and 4" softwoods. If i get into 4" hardwoods I use either Ford 871 or 45hp Kioti. Hope that helps...

I have a Crary Bearcat Chipper and run it with a 650 John Deere(Yanmar) compact diesel. it does all right till I get over 3" limbs in the feed chute. Not being a power feed, the first thing that wears out is the operator.
