LOOK AT MY HAY FIELD

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My hay field was looking great yesterday then a storm came thru with wind/rain . I am located in northeast ohio we had a dry window to bale hay the problem was before the dry spell we had couple inches rain ,well some tried to bale and they had wet spots in the bales .

So I am waiting for the next dry window to get my hay baled ,then this storm came thru .

What do you think will happen to this hay ?????????????????

I've got some..............advice; don't use OMG unless you're praying. If you're praying, why would you pray to a bunch of yuppies, wannabee farmers and small-time gardeners?

a disc mower should pick most of it up. you may want to mow it one way. a sickle haybine will have its hands full.
the storm sure made a mess of the hay.

This is a regular occurence in western Washington- any hay crop worth its salt is flat by the time we get weather to cut. This is why we took to disc mowers about 30 years ago, and never looked back.

Cut it as best you can when you get weather, and ted it immediately, to break it up. Then just handle as usual. It may be a little yellow and slimy on the bottom, but that doesn't seem to hurt it if you don't let it mold.

thurlow;

I really enjoy your pictures and comments. However, this is the second post I've read berating some of us as "wannabees and gardners." Just becuase we're not farming several hundred acres for a living, doesn't mean we don't enjoy seeing things grow or that we don't have a deep love and respect for the land. I have 80 acres and plant only food plots. However, I would never sell this land. I walk it almost every night just to discover what new plants might be growing or the chance discovery of a clutch of turkeys or grouse. Not trying to start a fight, just expressing my thoughts and feelings.

Larry.........didn't mean to offend you or anyone else; the phrase is not mine (though I've used it); it's been used here many dozens (hundreds???) of times over the last 10-12 years or so. I've always been amused by it. There are some full-time farmers, some part-time farmers, some folks who grew up on a farm or whose grandparents farmed, some who are interested in the lifestyle, some who like old tractors/equipment, some mechanics, some who own property, etc. who post on/frequent these forums. I've made some great friends on 'here', though I've never laid eyes on but 2 of 'em. In addition to the above, there are the "yuppies, wannabee farmers and small-time gardeners." BY THEIR POSTS, YE SHALL KNOW THEM!!!! I've got a wry sense of humor; things that require some......what used to be called.......common sense seem to be much lacking. I find it better to be amused rather than frustrated. I don't think (could be wrong) that I've ever called any INDIVIDUAL one of the things that offended you. My apologies to you, but it's very probable that I'll continue using the phrase.

I frequent some other forums........woodworking, cooking, stained glass, electrical, logging, sawmilling and maybe a couple more; those are things I have an interest in and some of it goes back several decades, but I tend to 'tread lightly' on those other forums. The old-timers tend to be much more crotchety than on here. I'm a soon-to-be 66 year old retired farmer/cattleman; except for military service, I've never done anything (that paid) but farm. Yesterday's Tractors is my on-line home; you can probably catch me here this afternoon and tomorrow........

I have the same thing in North West Ohio.

I don't need advise but I would take a little sympathy. If I can't get sympathy I would take a crew with forks to hold it up while I cut it off.

Like I said over on Tales I need to install a hand clutch on one of my Olivers cause just looking at the downed mess makes my old left knee hurt.

This is off this topic, but you mentioned some logging sites.

We inherited from James' dad two very old come-a-longs made by Durbin Durco. On one of them, the housing has cracked and we want to replace it.

I googled Durbin Durco and got nothing. Perhaps someone on one of these sites might know something.

Would you let me know one of the websites? Maybe someone there (or you) could give me some info on where to look for parts.

Thanks!

The bright sun today is helping it is starting to lift ,as I was driving around today noticed lots of fields like mine .

thanks for all the replys
