A little O/T: Had a kitten in the farm truck!

I thought I had too many beers last night, I kept hearing a soft whine. Finally got out the maglight and sure enough, the little fellow was on top of the spare under the truck. I've got no clue where it came from, theres no cats near here. I tried to get him with a gloved hand, but he jumped down and ran into the peanut field. Lot's a luck to him- with all of the owls, foxes, and one farmstead bulldog with a penchant for killing any small mammals in sight, I don't think the cat's odds are good. I tried...

Though I probably should not admit it here, I've always been a "cat man" rather than a "dog man."

When growing up, we always had lots of barn cats and a few house cats. Always one or two were favorites.

I remember one winter morning when my father took his new 1968 GMC PU to the Shell garage about 1 1/2 miles away for an oil and filter change. I was out and about in my 57 Chevy (sadly, a 4 door) but stopped at the garage upon seeing Dad's truck on the lift. I waited while the mechanic finished with the oil change and lube job and then followed my Dad home.

About 100 yards from the garage I saw something soft drop from the front of the truck and stopped to inspect. It turned out to be my favorite long haired grey kitten about 2 or 3 months old. It had gone through the radiator fan.

Apparently, the kitten had crawled up behind the warm radiator the night before for comfort. It seems that it had decided to remain there while my Father drove to the garage the next morning and while the mechanic worked on the truck but decided to make a break for it shortly after Dad left for home.

I had a cat that somehow survived a pickup truck fan incident. He lived to be about 12 after that.

I have 4 cats upstairs that the wife treats like royalty.

I like our border collie, but I also like cats a little better. We have three we keep in the house, and the garage now and then. stan

the day after mrs 730 got her cat snickers i had a
doctors appointment about 12 miles from home. when i left his office i heard and saw a small kitten sitting and meowing up a storm.
i looked and said that's snickers how did she get here? i called mrs 730 and said "don't look for snickers i have her in truck with me".
she said "why did you take her to town?"
i said "i didn't know i did she was sitting on street beside my truck"
the only thing i can figure out she crawled on top of spare tire and rode to town with me.
that was 3 years ago she is still here one of the best cats we have.
most of our cats are named for snack foods.

We have two cats who were "hired" as barn cats. We had 'em fixed over the winter so they lived in the garage until they grew fur back under their bellies. Now they prefer to be up around the house with us. I really like the cats but I'm allergic to cats which is a good thing 'cause my wife would have them in the house in a heartbeat.
We also have two dogs who do get to come in the house, one a heinz 57 with from what we can figure, some lab, retriever, shepherd, and probably a few others. The other I call our Borderline Collie, she is Border Collie, golder retriever and chocolate lab. Her instinct is definitely on the Collie side as she likes to herd everything.....her and the younger horse have a love hate relationship.
