How do you muffle an air intake?

I acquired this old John Deere 2010 diesel backhoe/loader. It runs fine, but the air intake is almost as noisy as the exhaust. Everything seems to be original with an oil bath air cleaner and the plastic bell up on the pipe above the tractor hood.

Has anyone ever been successful in putting some kind of air muffler on one of these? I remember my old 6.2 Chevy diesel pickup had a plastic muffler before the air cleaner. Its main purpose was to muffle the air intake.

Any ideas? Thanks

A friend of mine has a 2010 diesel ag tractor and there's NO noticeable intake noise.

I wonder what's set up differently on your industrial version???
