O/T: '97 Dodge/Cummins front seal

My brother just called and asked if I wanted to change his front seal. I haven't looked at it yet. How much stuff is in the way? Would it be as simple as dropping the belt, removing front pulley and dampener and pop in a new seal? Or is there no room to work, a lot of stuff to get out of the way first, etc? I can't get it inside, not sure if this is something I want to tackle out in the yard.

Opinions and suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Anthony

Pull the front cover off and tab the dowel pin while your at it. If you don't, you are wasting your time. Just tabbed my killer dowel pin and fixed the front seal last weekend, not too hard, probably 4-5 hours working at an easy pace. This gives instructions on fixing the dowel pin and at the bottom is the seal instructions.

Well...it's not a big deal if you have the right tools. You will have to either buy or make a wrench to get that fan off. Do not remember the size, but it's about 21 or 22 mm. It is left hand thread. I had to use it like a hammer wrench.
The rest is straight forward...but the seal has to be pressed in the cover. Be careful...that cover is easily broken.
Like 720 Diesel said...may as well lock the killer dowel pin while your in there.
Jim Jessup in North Vernon, Indiana can tell you all you need to know. Good guy and he can tell you the procedure and send you the parts.

There is an alignment dowel pin that can vibrate out and ruin the gears on the front of the engine as well as the engine. Look at his link below and it should have the photos of it. The front cover bolts can also come loose so you put Locktight on them at the same time.
