I have 1983 2240 john deere with a 175 loader. When I am using the pto and try to use the loader the pto will quit or slow down.Does anyone know if the hydraulic pump can cause this and if so how many pumps cpould be involved?

If your 2240 has ind pto with the lever between gear shifts then the trans pump powers the hyd pto. You need to address problem or you pto clutch linings will fail. Tractor has 2 pumps,a trans pump and main hyd pump at frt of engine. Your problem is possibly a weak trans pump, clogged sump screen or hyd filter, low or high pressure internal leak. 2 good places to check are rockshaft valves(peek in hyd filler hole for spraying oil with engine running & 3pt raised) and leaking return on ind. loader valve if equipped. You need to check both high & low PSI's.
