Shipping a propane tank from an Oliver 77

I have someone interested in trading a propane setup for a gas setup for my Oliver 77. I would need to ship the propane tank to him as well. Anyone have any experience shipping these tanks and what carrier did you use? I don't know how much it weighs if that makes any difference...

How far?probally have to go common carrier/truck freight.that empty tank will be treated as"hazardous material",so UPS,USPS will not carryit.Maybe you and the other party could meet halfway.make it a 'minivacation',a nice roadtrip!

make sure it's empty, box it and ship it.If they ask, just say it's parts, don't mention propane.

I wonder if you couldn't empty it and then take the gauge out of it. Then it would just be an empty steel container, not a propane tank.

And in case the truck hauling it is involved in an accident or fire and it blows some firefighter/ rescue person to bits, you won't have to play dumb, you would be really stupid.
Shipments can be traced, you would be liable for any injury/death.
Nuff said.

A tank that has been filled is aways full as as as hazmat is concerned. When we send tanks out for repair they are labeled as full till the repair company purges them with nitrogen and can prove it. Find a Scuba Dive shop and ask them where you can have it purged.
