Good News , I Finally Found A Job.

Hello Everyone ,

Well, guess who now has a job starting Monday 5-24-10 ? Me ! I finally found a job, so I'll be off of the unemployment line . It felt good while it lasted , though. I'll start out training on days and then go to a 12 hour shift for a while. 7:00 p.m. to 7:20 a.m. Best part is , I'll start out at $11.70 and after two years I'll be up to $14.00 + an hour . I'll be making $2.00+ more an hour starting out than I would have if I was still at my former job . And yes , I have the prejob jitters .

IA Leo,

Thank you and thanks to everyone who posts. I was hoping for a two years of schooling with the layoff benefits , but that apparently is not going to happen . They haven't even passed it yet , and now even if they did , now that I have a job, it's out of the question for me. I figured that the education would only help me not hurt me. Like a girl that I know said - " 9 times out of 10 they'll hire the one with the Degree before they hire the one with actual experience ". This may not be true in all situations , but it's mostly true in most accounts

Thanks ,
Whizkid

No need to have the jitters. Hold your head up high and go in there and do the job you were hired for and do it good. As a former employer it shows when a guy has confidence.

CONGRATS!!

That sounds like my hours 7pm to 7am. Mine is only 3 or 4 days a week so I get plenty of time to farm.

What kinda work are you going to be do'n?

Congrats again.

Dave

kyplowboy ,

I'll be working in a brake manufacturing facility . Normally the hours are three 8 hour shifts, but their so busy that they are forced to go to a 4 star , 12 hour system for a while. It is Japanese owned , not that I care though . But, being foreigned owned then maybe that will help me to keep my job later with this economy .... but then ,maybe not .

It is always good to get back to work. One thing about working in a brake factory is, as long as people need to stop there will always be work. Stan

Good deal. You might be better off working there than a home owned joint. We had a plant here that built car parts for years. Two years ago Napa thought they'd do better move'n the plant to Mexico. Kinda messed up around here now, there used to be all kinds of American based car part plants, now most every thing that is built around here goes to the Toyota plant.

Good luck with it!

Congrats, Whizzer! But don't falsely over-value the degree. When the frame plant in Corydon closed in 2005, I got the 2-year [actually 3 semesters + a summer session] educational benefit. Since I'd already been a parts department manager, I went for the AAS degree in Automotive Management...accounting, business law, business management, supervision, and a lot of auto tech courses. Got the degree--in fact, a B in accounting kept me from having a perfect 4.0 GPA. Shortly thereafter, I got hired to be the replacement for a 62-year-old parts manager who was gonna retire in less than a year. Seven months in, I got "laid off"...so they could find a slot for the owner's nephew. KY being an "at-will" state, they can fire you "for cause," or for NO cause, and you're still just as unemployed either way.

Degree PLUS experience is still no match for being related to the owner.

Good for you!!! 12 hour shifts are a good deal if you discipline yourself and get the needed sleep regardless of nice fishing or farming weather. I work 14 days a month and still get a few hours overtime.

Enjoy.

Dave
