time till corn seed rots

I planted 8 pounds of sweet corn a week ago saturday and it rained 4 inches on it since then, soil temps in the 50 to 70 degree range, average around 60. How long does it generally take to rot corn seed?

You should be ok. Planted my field corn the last week of April.

Some is just coming up now. What came up earlier, froze off, as we had a week of rain & highs either side of 50.

Corn is pretty tough.

Anyhow wait for a week of warmer weather before you toss in the towel on it. :)

I've seen field corn emerge 20 days after planting. Sweet corn isn't as hardy. If it is wet and isn't up within 15 days, I would replant.

At 60 deg soil temp, you will be OK as long as the seed was good to begin with. It takes 50 deg and above (soil temp at 4 inch depth) to cause corn to germinate. My field corn is just spikeing after 17 days.

How deep did you plant? Too deep will cause it to run out of gas before it emerges.

At one week, do not panic.

That much rain might have made a crust the corn can't push through. It'll start leafing out underground if it can't get out of the ground in time.

If you don't make any footprints when you walk out there you might have to do something to at least make cracks in the crusted soil above the rows.

dig in the rows to see if its sprouted. see if the ground is crusted. you may need to go in and lightly fine drag it to break up the crust to help the corn emerge, never had to do that with field corn, but once had to with oats.

I just happen to have a germ chart here on my desk.
At 50 Degree s temp you will get 47% germ and emergence in 22 days.
At 59 Degess 97% in 12 days
At 68Degress 97% in 7 days.
At 77 degrees 98% in FOUR days!

Half of it was sh2, half se. I may be replanting the sh2, will have to dig some up and have a look. Thank you for your replies.
