Directional Control Valve-who rebuilds

Hi, we just purchased a John Deere 5510 that has a Cross Directional Control Value that operates the rear Hydraulics. It is leaking terrible, and will either have to be rebuild or replaced. Does anyone know where to send one and have it rebuilt reasonable. I found one new on EBay for $445, but would like to pay less of course. Thanks for your help.

Any good hydraulics shop should be able to set you up. Check the yellow pages in any decent sized town, or ask at a local equipment dealer who has a good reputation.

If you do decide to replace, Look at Northern Tool. I just got a couple valves from them. Name brand, and good prices, Another source is Surplus Center. I've not dealt with them, but they seem to have great prices.

Those valves on the 5000 series are usually trouble free. You should clean up around them first and see where the oil is coming from. There are orings between the two valve that can leak and fixing them is very easy.

HI, We got the name of a man who runs a one-man shop within about 40 miles of here. My husband took it down today. This was actually a Cross brand that has 4 holes, but one has a pug of some sort in it and three levers. It is mounted upon the fender and has 4 remotes attached to it. You turn (or slide) the one lever on the tractor to give fluid to the control. In this case, when we put fluid to the control, it was pouring fluid (with nothing hooked to the remotes), at least a cup a minute. When we turn off the fluid at the tractor, no leakage. We tried the lift arms, but didn"t have anything to hook this too. It is not that big a deal to fix. we bought this tractor from an individual and got a really good deal on it, so I am not complaining. I don"t really like this setup, but that is the way the tractor is. Should work okay.
