Names for a farm dog

The wife"s been on a kick about getting a dog, we"ve gone back and forth for almost a year on the breed. We settled (I gave in) on a lab. Not the best farm dog I know, but I get to name it. I"m looking for suggestions for a farmy/country type name for her

male or female have a female lab called Saddie was a stray at sons place lot of bother but gaining on training I think had a short hair named duke

Gave in on black lab too... named him Trip, "cause that"s what he does to you at night.

She was probably getting me back for naming her cat many years ago. She left me alone with it for a while, by the time she got back, it answered to Worthless.

We got a BLACK German Sherpard ... call her Pepper { Black Pepper is the name on the reg. paper }
Good luck on your name search ...

Lots of names through the years. Many common ones like Duke, Molly, Lassie, and Brandy. Even had one we called useless!

Yellow or Black? Carhartt would be good for yellow. BottleCap would be good for either color, don"t let him have one, you"ll never get him to stop! Ours is named "Scout".

I have a black lab/chow mix that some one dropped off here when he was a pup. I don't know who didn't want him but their loss. He has been here almost 8 years and he has been one of the best dogs I have ever had. He answers to Hank.

Buddy of mine's dad used to have a black lab he called nnalert, said he just laid around all day watch'n other folks work and wait'n on some one to feed him.

Don't do that. Some one dropped two pups off at my mom and dad's house when my brother and I were kids. One was the cute but dumb as a bucket full of hammers and the other was smart but looked worse than a stump full of crawdads. My brother and I named them ignorant and ugly. Ignorant got run over and died before she was a year old. Ugly is still around almost 20 years later, she is slow, but she still gets around and is the ugliest dog you will ever see.

DECEMBER , IS our Heinze 57 GOLDEN LABs name , And I just had to take this oppurtunity to brag at my Amazement of this loving DOG , who was a STRAY !, had some good dogs in my time , this one has emulated the behavior of the Mother of the Son who saved her on a COLD Wet ,DECEMBER day after being ran over by a uncaring motorist some 10 yrs ago ... Truly a LOVING , LOYAL , CARING , Sweetheart , with better living Habits Than Mine.. LOL .. we both come in from a walk in the pasture , I take my boots off , and Make marks on My SARAs floor in socked feet , Decembers feet are clean ..,

My Son had a coon dog one time he called it "Mangus"

I ask him how he came by that unusual name . He said as a pup he called him Mangy A$$ and because of his barking at night and neighbors would complain (as he was a good hunter, smell a coon a mile away ), he had to shorten it to Mangus when he yelled at him.

Lot of female black labs here are called "Lady"
very fitting for their disposition, but too common.

I had a collie I called "Susi" She was a lady too.

I've had Dog, Yellow Dog, and Red Dog. Cats are Cat, Kitty, Yellow Cat, Grey Cat, and Black Cat. Sorry, thats probably not much help.

Call it Spot, feed it regular, & it'l come when you call it...

Buy a good collar & it'l last for 2 to 3 dogs.
Don't even have to change names...

Then chased it two more miles when a cousin borowed it to do lawn cleaning. played keep away with the lawn rake with my cousin and then chased the mule two miles back home. and some people actualy ask me why I named her Nuisance

A Big fellow 117 lbs of gentleness. No one wanted him because he required surgery and was way to big. What a loving soul he is. Any way, What ever you decide,it will be approprate. Strong names are best. Labs are gentle friends.

Speaking of dog names, I too have a Lab/Chow cross named Bear. He has been my ever present companion for the last 11 years. Loyal as the day is long. I have noticed lately, that after chasing the utv for a spell he will lay around for quite a while. Must come with old age. I have 1 of his latest pups. We call him Rocky. What the old dod lacks the pup has an excess.

I named one of our dogs "Twice". I figured that was his name. He would come when I called him Twice but wouldn't come if I called him Once.

So by now you have been given many names and all from great dogs. did notice that the black labs/mix are spoken of quite highly also. our son's black lab/chesapeake bay mix is one of those great dogs. As a puppy she was named Hydro due to her love of water. Early in her puppy years we temporarily changed her name to Hydra, a Greek mystical multi-headed monster. If dogs are just dogs then how do they find their way into nearly ever facet of your life, heart or home? By the way, Hydro now is approaching 15 years of age and going down fast.

Keep it to one syllable Ive had many;Boots, Lady, Duff, Duff 11, Bow, Mont, Boomer. All were good dogs, all lived good long lives and are together in the stone row.

In my yoth a bob tail collie just showed up on the farm with an old chain almost wore through and Dad cut off the chain and was named Bouser. Great skunk controller.

Always liked Tippy, but my dogs are Camo, Penny (Money Penny from James Bond), Dan and Ann my beagles named after the dogs from the book Where the red fern grows.

Fritz, not sure about the German connotation, but its roots are there, the name of every bull on the dairy farm when Heinrich was still there.

Named our latest dog Lucy, we had just watched Cool Hand Luke, you know the scene - George Kennedy ogling the busty blond washing the car: "Ohhhh...my Lucille!"

Have a blue heeler / beagle cross named Earl, best dog Ive had. As far as girl names, we have a barn cat named Herb. Both good, simple country names I think!

"Dog" worked for many years. Then another was Guess. People asked the kids the dog"s name- they"d say Guess. So they did. The litter was named Guess Again, Guess Not, Guess Why, Guess So, etc.

A neighbor had a black lab named Schwarz. German for "black."

My lab is named Lucy. So I get to sound like Ricky hollering for his beloved wife: Loooooosieeeee!

A buddy of mine has two chocolate Labs. One is named "Hershey" and the other "Nestle".

I don't have a dog now, but when I was a kid I had one named "Walter" and another named "Lester". Don't ask me why.

The bigger the dog, the smaller the name. Fifi. That way when someone comes to the door and hassles the wife or children, they give a shout out to "Fifi" so the trouble maker at the door gets a surprise greeting by a very obedient 100 or so pounder that aint gonna put up with much of them.

"Here Fluffy, Fluffy, Fluffy"...chomp.

Only dog I ever had was Cubby, He was 1/2 heeler 1/2 aust shepard. Best dog ever. He was my buddy from 12 yrs old and babysat both my kids. We had a border collie growing up, his name was Tippy....James

Last dog was a collie named Sniffer, beautiful dog and very protective of wife and kids. Current dog is Bruno , he is a Cane Cor so Mastiff, weight is around 130 lbs. Really a gentle giant, but scares the sh!t out if any one who comes on the place just seeing him.

Just popped in my head. Then it occurred to me Dixie might be too southern for a New England Farmer but I'd already posted so...
