white wash paint

I know of at least two receipes when making it from scratch. My dad"s family always used 25 pounds of hydrated lime mixed in 10 gallons of water and then added some white chalk to it. Some of his inlaws used white lead powder, like you used to mix with linseed oil to make white paint instead of the chalk.

10-pounds waterproof white Portland cement
2-pounds Snowflake hydrated lime
1/2-pound table salt (added to water--see mixing directions)

For sand texture, 5-8 pounds of fine, white, silica sand can be added to each 10-pounds of cement.

To each 10-pounds of dry ingredients, add 1.5 quarts of water to which the salt has been dissolved. Stir in additional water for a creamy consistency. Let stand 15 minutes, remix adding more water if needed. Apply to a previously dampened surface.

One gallon of mixed cement paint will cover about 200 square feet.
