Update X2 On Well Pump

Found a new pump at Home Depot...1 hp (submersible); mine now is 3/4 hp and at least 15 years old.. Is this going to be an issue with the old pipes at the house? Is the pressure going to be that much more? Also, I now have 3 wires plus a ground. Some guy at TSC says a 2 wire will work, just don't use the neutral or ground. Is that right?
Thanks everyone for your response.

The pressure control system (not the motor) control the system pressure, no issue there.
The system might need to be updated to allow for the increased load on the controls, They are usually specific to a pump, including capacitors and other components at the surface, not in the well. The third issue is the wire. I would use the three wire system. It would certainly be a questionable at to use no neutral on the pump. This ties back to the first answer. A third wire could be added if it is an expense thing. The only stipulation would be the waterproof connection needed (which is needed anyway) Jim

I decided to go with the Depot; it's 3 wire anyway and they also come with the new control board.

Thanks much

Two wire/two insulated wire pumps have the starter switch built into the pump. Just a plain pressure switch to control operation.
The more reliable three wire pump moves the starter switch up into a relay box mounted near the pressure switch.
The three wire pump also allows varible speed control via Frankilin Mono Drive or Mono Drive XT.
Instead of the pump pounding on and off while water is being used. The pump speed is varied during water demand. When demand slows to a dribble or stops. The pump stops and the system goes to standby similar to the old systems with a bladder tank.
If the old pump has quit. You are on borrowed time just replacing a coupling etc.
If you have to yank everything out. It's time to replace the motor, pump, wiring, hoses and pitless adapter. Or you will get to look at all these parts again real soon.

When we had cows, we had better luck with the
2 wire pumps with a splined shaft. Had 4 pumps
between the barn and houses. As close to trouble
free as you could get.
