Slope Runner

Looking through the posts on this rainy Sunday and saw dave2's comment about the mower. My father bought this Slope Runner hillside mower several years ago. They were made in Harper Kansas. They work the same as a hillside combine. All hydrostatic drive, no mechanical linkage what so ever. This one was built in the 70's. Ford Pinto motor, two hydrostates bolted back to back to power everything.

great shot of your dad. had 3/4 inch of much needed rain in nw alabama this morning. so, what does the sign on front of the tractor say?

I'm guessing those are made by Slope Tractor. They were a good machine that never really caught on. In the later 70's Hustler came out with tilting, out front mowers for slopes. The first one was the 402 4 wheel drive which was updated to the 602 6 wheel drive. My dad sold all of them. He brought a demo 402 home to cut the grass and the neighbor thought it was pretty cool that he mowing with the cab tilted about 20 degrees on flat ground. They had automatic and manual tilt with a toggle switch. My dad was showing that they wouldn't tip over if tilted on flat ground. Dave
